Nathan Brown discussion

Shaun Wane’s management is going to approach the Knights with interest in the vacant head coaching position.

He’s kind of under the Storm coaching tree and seems to fit the credentials that people here want. No nonsense, hard nosed but can make his players better both on and off the field.

Interesting to see how this unfolds as it could be a great fit.

Baz reckons he's not in the frame. Suspect the club is going hard for O'Brien.

11 years with the storm. Given storm life membership. Spent some time with some great players and of course Bellamy. Apparently was defensive coach at Storm, but at Roosters they already had defensive coach so he had to move to attack coaching.

Can't think of a better apprenticeship than that.

He is also apparently a no nonsense coach that expects high performance no doubt coming from the Storm system.

I can see why the Knights want O, O, O.....O'Brien.

That's speculative too, club isn't going to pigeonhole themselves into looking at just one coach and rush possibly making one of the biggest decisions in their ownership of the Knights just because the media says so.

Knights probably had the descission made before the Brown anouncment.
Now just playing the game to make it look good.
Fitzgibbon probably ruled himself out because he new Obrien had the job.

Lolled at this haha.

Found this funny too. All speculative of course

"O'Brien is firming by the minute for the Knights job after fellow Roosters assistant Craig Fitzgibbon ruled himself out and the NRL said de-registered Sharks coach Shane Flanagan cannot be considered."

"Roosters powerbrokers are angry that O'Brien is considering the job just three weeks out from the finals - and just nine months into a three-year deal."

"It is understood he has a clause in his contract that allows him to walk away at any stage if a head coaching job becomes available."

"The Roosters had originally baulked at the clause, wanting stability in their coaching ranks, before O'Brien gave them a verbal assurance he would not consider leaving until the end of his second season."

"O'Brien disputes that he made such a promise."

"While O'Brien is adamant he has not met with the Knights, the Roosters are keen to bring the situation to a head so it does not cause any distraction leading into September."

"Any decision about O'Brien will be left to Roosters coach Trent Robinson, who declined to comment when approached by the Herald."

"Complicating the matter further is the fact that Roosters chairman Nick Politis has had a major fallout with Moses, who is also in the middle of a messy split with star fullback James Tedesco."

"In a short period of time, O'Brien has established a close relationship with the playing group and his departure - immediately or in the off-season - would be considered a blow to the organisation."

Now it's just the s**t storm at the Roosters, I'm sure the rest of the NRL would be loving this...

The Knights wanted their head coach to be sorted by the end of the regular season from memory. I can't see the Roosters being too happy with O'Brien being wined and dined, toured around the facilities while he's preparing the Roosters each week...

He must be good at what he does if he is seriously being considered despite never playing at an elite level and never coaching his own side at any level.

It's interesting that another article, also written by Webster suggests the following...

"He was approached for the Titans job but said he had no desire to leave Trent Robinson. He is contracted until 2021 and has an understanding that he won’t take up a head coach's role until the end of next season."

"Whether O’Brien’s management want to force the issue should the Knights come knocking remains to be seen."

Being called the next big thing in coaching is more of a curse then a blessing, we'll see.

Better hope he becomes available.

We’re gonna look like total amateurs if we sack Brown and can’t get the bloke we actually want and end up settling for 2nd best.

Jason Ryles wouldn't be a bad option at all. If we don't get O'Brien, there are some other options for us (albeit thin).

That's probably the polite way of saying I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a spoon than go and coach the Titans.

So John Morris got a head coach role and people thought he had a slim resume - 300 firstgrade games over about 15 years - played many positions - has been going to Uni to get related qualifications for even longer - coached under 20s and reserves to success as well as assistant in firstgrade.

O'Brien has no firstgrade experience, no Uni qualifications, never been coach of a side at any level - just 10 years as an assistant coach.

Wests don't let the cat out of the bag early, so I reckon all the speculation means nothing.
We'll know who the coach is when it is announced officially.
