Mid Season Report Card

And getting in that top four … even if we can’t compete with the likes of Penrith and the Warriors … we get an away finals match, a home finals match vs someone from 5-8 that we can hopefully win, and then a GF qualifier. Would be fantastic experience. That’s what you can really build off.

Looking all the way back to 1995, that was our experience. We played those three finals matches and were never really in the GF qualifier vs Manly. But then a few years later in 1997, we knew how to handle it all.

Anyway, my mid-season grade for the year is a B+ at the moment. Still some work to do on our defence, and managing those momentum shifts in matches. Still progress to make with our forward pack.

But if I take into account where we came from last year, it’s an A+ … the turnaround has been incredible, our attack looks almost the most dangerous in the competition, and our position on the table is pretty much a miracle! Holbrook and the players deserve a medal at this stage.

I've been making 1995 comparisons myself for other reasons. 95 was the best squad we had had at the club to that point, strong across the park. But we also had a LOT of talent in the juniors about to make its mark as well. We won the reggies comp that year and the amount of top quality juniors to come out of that side reads a bit like a who's who. Super League and being stuck behind immortals meant alot moved on, but guys like MGids, Peden, Craigie, Albert and Fletcher were about to win a senior premiership, with guys like Buderus and Tahu not far away either.

Today I feel we have our best squad since Kennedy and Tahu left, with plenty of quality juniors about to push through as well. 🤞🤞

I know the bar is high but Cleary also in the mix also coming from a lower position on the ladder to a higher one. Still a good race for COY.

Even with times the defensive lapses there have been plenty of occasions where we've had to defend on the backfoot, or to keep us in the arm wrestle or at end of games as well and it's been more then satisfactory. Just go with the 2001 moto the best defensive is a good offense.
