Mad Dog retiring??

Hi guys. Has the Mad Dog actually confirmed he's retiring at seasons end?? Gidley was just on NRL Live on Fox and said he hopes Mad Dog returns towards the end of the year so the boys can send him out on a high. It will be sad to see him go (met him a couple of times, nice guy) but I think now is certainly the time. Thoughts?

Yeah i think so. Unfortunately he is passed his best and he would free up a vast percentage of the salary cap if he was to retire.
Really in my opinion maybe a season to long and maybe the Knights could of held onto Cooper Vuna who would of played centre or wing just to stay at the Knights.

MacDougall is definitely retiring, it was announced when he said he'd play on this year.

Wait till the end of the season to judge if he's played on a season too long, but given his injury run this year so far, it's really impossible to tell.

Vuna was never staying, he got a huge offer from union and left without allowing us a counter-offer anyway.

Don't downgrade Doogs. He has been a great servant to the Club and he knows which way is up.

Yeah he decided to play another season to reach 200 games but given the Injuries he has sustained this year he won't reach it unfortunately. I think it's 200 games something like that..

He's the oldest player in the NRL, so I guess that is pretty self explanatory. He's been great to the club, one of the nicest blokes I ever met. I'll always remember going into the sheds after the game and seeing Josh Perry, another great bloke, saw Maddog at Westfield down here on the coast and he said when he returns, that I would take me into the sheds. He didn't disappoint:)

Will miss him, but he is passed his best unfortunately.

Dude is basically stealing 150k from the Knights this year.
Should have been show the door last year.

Pretty **** thing to say about a guy who has given his all to play for the Knights, and based on his year end form last season when he was showing up younger guys why wouldn't you have signed him.

Although I can see you point regarding how much he (possibly because none of us actually know) earns compared to his onfield performance this season to say he is stealing craps all over the legend that is Maddog!

p.s. and yes you did hit a sore point!

Except the time he ditched the Knights to go play for Souths for 3 years.

Because he's 36 and has had a career plauged by injuries (averages ~12 games a year over 17 seasons).

It's true though.

But came back on far less money, in addition to the fact that we did not even offer him a contract so we could keep Joey.

Can't argue with that!

Yet harsh, given his personal circumstances at the beginning of the year,

I think we can agree to disagree, I love the Maddog but I don't want him to keep playing and ruining the legend of his reputation.

He is awesome on the ONE HD RL show mo Mondays though,
