Lockyer accused of bar "tackle"

He did do it, there was new footage yesterday on the news. Showing Lockyer and a few team mates. But it was barely even a tackle... Id say more a hug?

Lockyer confesses, but can't recall 'tackle'

Brisbane Broncos captain Darren Lockyer has admitted to tackling a bar manager after spending much of this week denying it was him in the CCTV footage.

Casablanca Bar owner Sarosh Mehta released the vision this week which showed the venue's manager in an altercation with Lockyer and several other Broncos players on the street after the group allegedly took alcohol off the premises.

This afternoon, Lockyer told reporters that he was sorry for the incident which along with three other Broncos players who are under investigation for an alleged sexual assault, has taken much of the focus off the club's semi-final against the Melbourne Storm.

"If I offended anyone, then I apologise," Lockyer said appearing to be very sincere in his regret.

The star playmaker also admitted to not being able to remember the moment where he is seen in the footage to be lifting the bar manager.

"To be perfectly honest, I don't recall doing it," the former Queensland and Australian captain said.

Earlier this week, Lockyer told the Courier-Mail after seeing the footage on television:

"I have seen the footage and I don't believe it was me," Lockyer said.

"I don't recall any of the Broncos I was with making a tackle.

"I'm not going to apologise for something I didn't do."

He also denied claims he was drunk.

Throughout the week, Lockyer has had the support of his club with coach Wayne Bennett particularly vocal in his advocacy.

On Friday morning, Bennett launched an extraordinary attack on the media for reporting the incident.

"It showed the worst side of journalism," he said. "There was a lot of muck-raking going on.

"I'm not the keeper of your (the media's) ethics but I think any fair-minded person would say that."

The question now remains over how the Brisbane club will react following Lockyer's confession.

The Broncos have a history for sacking players for failing to meet a very strict code of conduct, with four members having their contracts torn up over the last two years.

What a load of BS that he couldnt remember it but wasnt drunk, will be interesting to see the broncos reaction to their little "angel"

He was either high off his head or heaps drunk.. either way he has known the whole week that it was him.
If it wasn't a tackle it doesn't really matter tbh.

I don't have a problem with 'that' tackle by lockyer

but what about how they were trying to smuggle drinks out

looked like they were stealing them the way hunt had the beers behind his back

strange!!!
