Line Up For 2013

1-13 is pretty much confirmed like everyone's are gonna be the same. The bench will be hard probably be something like
14. Hilder/Roberts
15. Costigan
16. Cuthbertson
17. Fa'alongo/McKinnon

Nev really needs to step up this year, can anyone remember a game where he could even be categorised as decent?

They are pretty sparse.

I think if Nevs got no injury worries he will suprise all of us this year and if he does start well i think that will be the end of Hilder as Nev will be the man to go to hooker to give Danny a break if needed ...Niether are good at hooker but Nev hurts in defence, Hilder makes a lot of tackles , but Nev breaks the line more than hilder does ......IMO at 96 kg Hilder is too light for the forwards ....

The best thing this season is not really knowing who will be in the side as there are so many that would do the job its a great situation to be in and one we have'nt been in for a long time .....Im loving it ....

Hilder >>> Roberts. I can't believe so many people think otherwise. Roberts was so mediocre last year and does not deserve a spot. Hilder can play hooker when Bedsy is off the field and can slot into the back row if needed. He'll tighten up our defense around the middle as well. From 2008 to 2011 he was our most consistent performer, can't wait to see him in 2013.

It's a small thing but it annoys me a bit when NRL sources or pages on Facebook or usually whenever some place posts a knights team line up they put gids at 5/8 and mullo at 1/2 , even though Wayne himself has confirme it's the other way around

Did you watch Hilder last year, really looked on tired legs and is 31, its hard to see him improving with age or a 21 year old who had a solid season last year and is still growing physically and mentally.

I recall one poor game against Brisbane at 5/8 other than that his performances were pretty strong imo.

Roberts was a young guy not ready for first grade who thought he was going to play NSW cup for the year and was then thrown into the deep end and did very well .
He was'nt great but who in the side was, Bennett was very pleased with his effort and IMO he held his end up well under the circumstances i think your being way to hard on the kid ...
I too think Hilder is all but finished he may play a bit this year but it will be his last in the red and blue i think . People say he was our best forward for a few years and he was but he did'nt have much competition unlike this season.

I still believe the best thing for Newcastle to do even though many of you will disagree is play Gids off the Bench even if it is only for the first couple of rounds and let either Roberts or Stigg pair with Mullen. I know Gidley is one of our best players but his no good to us if his getting injured making tackles. His Utility allows him to play anywhere if we sustain any injuries during a game n provides an exciting prospect coming off the bench fresh.

Sorry haven't been on for a while. If this has been discussed My apologies

This gets some debate every couple of months, it's quite a polar debate, some reckon having gidley at half is his best position, others are completely against it.

It usually riles everyone up for a week or so, being the off-season it might keep everyone going until the trials : )

Don't rate Costigan or F'alogo so they are a couple of senior players left out. Hilder is in the side to come on and give Buderus a breather each half he should get only 20 minutes max unless injuries strike. Reason it wasn't Roberts is because i'm not a fan of chopping and changing your spine around during a game when it isn't necessary.

Picked Naiqama over McManus as he is more of a threat and imo McManus isn't as safe as what he was a few years ago, seems to misread alot more plays then he used to imo.

Hopefully by the end of the year a few of the young guys like Sims, Smith, Frei and Redman have had a chance and showed what they can do in FG.
