Knights sign Andrew McCullough for rest of the season

I was thinking Ponga is still the youngest player in our side, and then I remembered Best is 3 years younger, and then I remembered Hoy is a year younger, and hen I looked up Brodie Jones and he's 2 months younger, and then I remembered Tuala and Shibasaki played in that agegroup, and Tuala is 8 months younger and Shiba is only a month older.
In short, old man Ponga is getting on a bit.

In 15 years he'll be 37

It was a very bad error of judgment, a player worth his salt should not make that type of error again.

Well if you're expecting that he or any other player might not make or even repeat a similar mistake, your expectations are too high (IMO). Even the most elite players make the odd mistake. The best players make less mistakes, but they're not perfect. He'll definitely learn from it though.

He's 22 and will still be leading out try assists by a country mile at the end of the year

It was a schoolboy error, there was a 2 man overlap, the ball should always be passed to the men who are not marked.

Not really fussed about what the error was. He's a young lad that made a poor call in the heat of the game. He'll learn from it and get better, but it won't be the last error he makes, and it would be unrealistic to expect him to eliminate all errors forever, including basic ones which all players are prone to make.

All I said was he will do make that error again.

I’ve said what I think and I’m not going to waste anymore time discussing it with z a you.

Waste? Here I was thinking we were having a good discussion. But if you think a discussion which ends up in someone not agreeing with your point of view is a 'waste' then you're probably on the wrong forum.

I don’t expect people to agree with me, but I will not waste time with people whose opinions I do not think are reasonable.

Anyway since this is a thread about Macca and not Ponga it seems like Seibold has seen his mistake ‘in hindsight’ at letting Macca go early without a solid back up plan...

No one was praising the Knights for the signing which was fine but most were very critical of the decision from the broncos very early on.

It's worked out extremely well for us, and pretty poorly for the Broncs I think.

So who is the bigger talent - Ponga or Best?
Both were seen as the outstanding player of their age group.
Both made their names as fullbacks.
Both debuted as wingers.
Both debuted at 18. Best at 18 years 1 week - Ponga at 18 years 6 months.
Ponga played 2 games at 18 and scored 0 tries.
Best has so far played 6 games for 6 tries as an 18 year old and doesn't turn 19 for another 2 months, so might have 14 games and 14 tries by 19 if he keeps up his current scoring rate.

Ponga has a lot of skills and a lot of room for improvement, but so does Best.

5 years from now we'll probably know.

In the bigger picture, Ponga by a country mile. Ponga is a playmaker with insane vision for such a young player, combined with individual athletic skill. He's the kind of player that you need to win a premiership. Best is just physically gifted at this stage, in 5 years time he may just be a no nonsense back rower, or he could be one of the game's premier centres, who knows. But just positionally, he is not in as important a role as Ponga.
