Knights’ Recruitment Manager

Yes it does. For the next three years.
Why would Smith agree to an extension without getting an upgrade on his current deal if he’s the only 7 we have, he’d have the club over a barrel?

That would be terrible management on the Knights behalf and would rightly **** him off. Hope nobody at the club is stupid enough to do that

$500k a year for the next three years as per Smith’s current contract, then 2 year extension for 2030 and 2031 at $700k. We’d still be $600k a year better off in those two seasons compared to keeping Brown on $1.3m. That should free up enough cap space to lock in Sharpe and either Best or Manuleleua for the next five years.

Find the conversation re Brown and Smith staying, leaving, who is better based on $$$value all a bit strange.
We can’t let one or the other finish up if under contract unless they are prepared to leave and another club wants to sign them and if so how much would the Knights end up paying either of them to go.
We have three players, Brown, Sharpe and Smith covering two positions meaning one is bench or Cup unless injury occurs.
If Brown is our 7 then Sharpe has to be our 6, Smith is a 7 but not a 6. Brown was a 6 and could be if Sharpe is out with Smith playing 7.
If Brown is out then Smith is 7 and Sharpe is 6. So basically Smith only plays in halves, 7, if Brown is out.
I know the mighty Dollar/Cap is tight but surely we can retain the three of them to retain cover for injury as both positions 6 & 7 are critical.
If we have to let players go surely we have 6-7 others we can move on who are less likely to be needed, some saving along with Cap upgrade forthcoming means we should be ok, we’re not talking 2027 but 2028 and the Cap will likely be increased by then.
My understanding is we have the players for 2027, even Best, JSaf so we should be more than competitive, the loss of players such as Gags and Frizell are more than covered by our developing players, surely, hopefully, all this discussion is purely the offseason, slow, nothing to discuss, talk about reporters making up stories, we create our own, and we are very good at it

Lol yeah right, good luck getting him to agree to that, with the money being thrown around at the moment.

Thankfully none of this will happen because hopefully that club’s not dumb enough to let Brown leave.

Lol, alright champ, no need to get so worked up over a hypothetical 😁

lol sure, you seemed pretty adamant your hypothetical scenario was easily done. I was just pointing out it seemed very out of touch with the current halves market, sorry you didn’t like it

Lol, alright champ. You just didn’t like how things were going, so you resorted to swearing and lol posts when you had nothing else 😭

How terrible would it make us look as a club if we got rid of a player one year into a ten year deal. That’s so unprofessional, it … it …

Well actually, it’s the sort of dumb *** thing we would actually do lol.

But seriously, never going to happen, and there’s no way it should. Back to reality!

I didn’t swear, I thought your argument was comical, sorry still do. You got butthurt, can’t help that. I’m perfectly fine with my argument, yours is the one nobody agreed with

Billy sees my vision. He also follows the lower grades more closely than most of us on here so he has a better understanding of what halves are coming through the grades.

Brown is not going to be moved on. Nobody, including Sandon Smith, is going to sign a two year extension on a three year contract for a small bump in price. He could be worth a truck load more in a couple of years. None of it is happening. I'd be careful lolling people over theories like this mate.

Even if they look really good in juniors, the hit rate for gun junior halves becoming good first graders is really bloody low. There aren't enough good first grade halves running around now for every club to have at least one. And right now, guys who flat out are not good make $700K.

I wouldn't even consider letting Dylan Brown go unless you guaranteed me someone better was walking through the door in the other direction. You keep Kalyn, Dylan and Fletcher together as long as possible. Every other roster call is subordinate to this aim. We have been waiting over 20 years to have a trio of key players this good. There's no either/or here. Keep all three.

Say what you like about POS, we are finally spending the cap the way it should be.

Nobody is disputing the juniors or Billy’s knowledge of them.

The argument was about you thinking it’s reasonable to let Brown go while still retaining Smith for 3 years on only $500k, that’s the illogical part for me as it doesn’t align with the current situation

You don’t know what Smith would want to extend for. One thing’s for certain, it won’t be anywhere close to the $1.3m Brown is on. The concern is our depth if we let Brown walk but if Billy believes someone like Butler can do a job when called upon, then I back his judgement. I’m not suggesting Smith is as good as Brown, but I think that $1.3m could be put to much better use by locking in Sharpe, Best and Manuleleua long term.

Brown said himself he signed here for the security of a ten year contract. He’s not going to agree to give that up after one year. These are people, not just chess pieces you move around a board.
