Knights confirm they are 1 of 6 in AAC'S report

The question was asked at the media show where are the positive drug tests ? The answer was there aren't any that we know of. At the end of the day(if I was a player) I would be telling ASADA to make love to my boot and get on with playing.
 
I know punters can be very bad judges but they usually don't part with large amounts of folding unless they know a sure thing. The Knights have been probably been the best backed team all week so some think there's a pretty fair chance the named side will take the field.

"Maybe not over the next week or two but over the next month or two, you're going to see the Cronulla situation as a blueprint for what is likely to happen with several other clubs in the AFL or the NRL," Ings said.

If this is the case the NRL season 2013 should be suspended until the mess is 100% cleared up.
 
I thought I would repost this from a Facebook page - you can take it for what it is worth. It is however, the most informative (??) piece about what has happened over the last week at the Sharks - whether it is true or not.....who knows.

TO EVERY CRONULLA FAN. You deserve to know the truth.

The man in this picture kneeling at the end of the front row, left side, is Doctor David Givney.

This ...is him as the Australian Team Doctor during a recent Four Nations victory in England.

He is also a Team Doctor for NSW State of Origin.

He was the Doctor of your club up until yesterday, when he was sacked, alongside four of his colleagues including coach Shane Flanagan and physio Konrad Schultz.

Doctor Givney has been with Cronulla since 1987. This was to be his 27th season with the club.

In 2011, The Doc turned up to a pre-season game to discover that (now former) Training Manager TRENT ELKIN had employed a 'sports scientist' named Stephen Danks, who had recently left Manly after five years.

The Doc was not informed, nor consulted about this decision. In fact, efforts were repeatedly made by Elkin to keep Doctor Givney away from Stephen Danks.

Shortly after, The Doc discovered mysterious heavy bruising on some of his players. After investigating this, he discovered that Danks had been secretly injecting them with warfarin, a blood thinning medicine, in a pseudo-scientific attempt to increase oxygen flow.

Concerned about the welfare of his beloved players, the Doc confronted Danks and Elkin about what they were doing. When they refused to tell him, Doctor Givney resigned from the Sharks in protest.

The resulting uproar from the players and officials upon hearing that the Doc had quit caused the Cronulla Board to step in. They refused to accept the Doc's resignation and they fired Stephen Danks.

At no point did the Doc witness any player being administered a WADA banned substance and to his knowledge, no player ever knowingly consumed a banned substance. There are no failed drugs tests and there is no hard evidence that any Cronulla player ever took a banned substance. While Danks' practices were certainly dodgy, they weren't, in this instance, illegal.

This all happened over the course of 4 weeks in pre-season 2011. Once the Doc discovered Danks' dodgy ways, Danks was fired.

Stephen Danks was at Manly for five years and Essendon for almost two. Manly, one of the wealthiest clubs in the League, has not been questioned once about its involvement with Danks.

And TRENT ELKIN left Cronulla at the end of 2012 and now works for Parramatta. He recently turned witness for ASADA in a deal for immunity against prosecution.

These are the facts of the case and they are undisputed.

Dr David Givney was more than just a doctor to these players. He was 'The Doc', their friend and confidante, loyal to the club through thick and thin and scrupulous to the point of resigning his job to bring about the removal of a person he believed was harming his players.

The reason I am talking about David Givney a lot is because he is my father. But the other four men have families too who will also be devastated by this and my heart goes out to them.

I don't think firing the staff was the right way to go...

Nobody's even been found guilty. The whole drug scandal was a big-*** knee jerk reaction to Lance Armstrong and although they may have uncovered some doping it's turning into goddamn Salem all up in here. Stephen Dank is a massive hack and a flunk. He's gone. The best thing the club could have done was to show unity, instead they've thrown some men under the bus.

If they're found guilty, then execute them. Not before.

Secret AFL deal to avoid player sanctions fires up NRL boss Dave Smith





THE NRL is reeling from claims the AFL had worked on a secret deal with government agencies which would see it avoid sanctioning players suspected of using performance-enhancing drugs.

NRL boss Dave Smith has been prevented from speaking publicly about the Australian Crime Commission investigation but The Daily Telegraph understands he is livid the AFL was seeking favourable treatment to avoid player suspensions.

Smith met with Prime Minister Julia Gillard in Sydney's west this week and sought reassurances that rugby league was treated in exactly the same way as the AFL in the doping scandal enveloping both sports.

It is understood AFL boss Andrew Demetriou met with drug agency officials and politicians in recent weeks to forge a deal which would see the Essendon players at the centre of the investigation freed from sanctions.

When news of the AFL's machinations reached the NRL, Smith acted swiftly to ensure no such deal materialised.

Demetriou admits his office has taken a proactive approach to dealing directly with ASADA and the federal government but denies there have been secret deals or favourable treatment.

"I won't deny that we have been in talks with ASADA since day one," he said. "We have been transparent and the Essendon players came forward freely with their concerns at the start. They have been totally honest.
"I know the NRL has been jumping up and down with the Prime Minister but there is a mechanism in place, available to all athletes under the code, that allows for more lenient penalties if the athlete is honest from the outset. All we have done is seek to ensure that our athletes will be treated fairly under that code.

"The investigation is not even complete yet so nobody knows the outcome but I will say that we have treated this very seriously from day one.

"We have not hired lawyers or loudly criticised the process. The ACC obviously has a lot of information and we are keen to ensure this is the right outcome for all concerned."

However, Smith remains concerned his players will be suspended without a fair hearing because of the ACC and ASADA's need to produce "scalps".

NRL staff are privately fuming Cronulla were swooped on by ASADA, while Essendon were not subject to the same scrutiny from the drug agency.

Smith has been told that ASADA's new wide-ranging coercive powers, which come into effect in the next few weeks, will have a huge impact on the NRL players under investigation.

Without a positive drug test, the investigation has so far stalled, with players under a cloud being told they should confess.
ASADA will soon have the power to force them to answer questions, giving them wide ranging powers to suspend without a full investigation.

They have fired people in management positions mostly, and a few like doctors etc who were directly involved with medical matters.
These people are for the highjump anyway, so the club taking early action is just trying to get ahead of the problem and maybe saving some of the players down the track.
Part of why managers are paid good money is because they are responsible for what is happening, and if the **** hits the fan, it's their fault.

That's how it's supposed to work - those with the training and skills and getting the big money taking the responsibility - what usually happens is some patsy - like some dumb kid players - are set up to take the fall.

So I have all the confidence in the world the Knights will be cleared, ASADA have nothing on the Knights just a link between couple of players who have come from different clubs,
But I'm sure Bennett would have told them to come forward if there is anything so my fellow knights fans and members don't stress we will be fine!

Apparently the Knights have hired a PR consultant.

When the Sharks contacted potential spin doctors and other NRL/AFL clubs, they received an indication of the widespread nature of the scandal. One PR consultant declined, saying he was already employed by Newcastle. The Knights have two former Sharks from the 2011 season, Jeremy Smith and Kade Snowden, on their roster.

I think if there was any possible chance we'll have a suspended player or two out of this we should be putting the feelers out for Luke Lewis. Just incase he gets out of his Sharkies contract!

All hypothetical of course!
