Knights chasing Tuimoala Lolohea

Kostjasyn is ordinary but who else wants to come here?

Sweet bugger all.
Having more ordinary players like Kostjasyn will only make it harder to get out of the mess we're in, though.

If we can't aim high then at least sign an up-and-comer with potential rather than stop-gap plodders like Kostjasyn. It's a huge waste of the cap, even if he's cheap.

If Brown rates Kostjasyn, he must see something that makes him the style of player he wants to build the gameplan around.
I've never taken much notice of him, but he does play in playmaking roles as well as hooker, and that's the only thing I can think Brown is looking for.

Brown is a real student of hooker play I think. When he arrived we had four young hookers in Clydsdale, Randell, Levi and Redman, and it seemed to me that it was one position we had covered for the next 10 years, and the first thing Brown did was sack two of them and sign Freeman, and since then he has signed Logan Harris and Kostjasyn - not to mention Adams.
That's 8 hookers and he doesn't seem happy with any of them.

I remember Brown well as a player because I was a Saints fan before the Knights. He was an aggressive, mouthy player who took control and called the shots as much as any playmaker - a bit of an Ennis type but not as much a grub. I think he wants to build the team around an aggressive, assertive hooker who calls a lot of the shots. That pom he recommended to Canberra is probably his style.

Sounds like I'm the only one thinking Kostjasyn would be a pretty good pick up. Not cause he's a superstar player, but, because he's played at two clubs with excellent cultures and he knows what it takes to be a winner.

You don't win premierships with week spots in your squad (especially your top 17 - 19 players) and he's been good enough to be in those teams... he'll do a job for us, I don't doubt that.

This debate reminds me a bit of when we sined Hilder. A lot made similar comments then too.

It really is ironic how 2 different people can have 2 completely different views.

When I think of players being pulled out of star teams I think of the likes of Vagana, Kidwell, O'Melley and more recently Blair(though he came good at the Bronco's.

Gee whiz, listening to Browny on the podcast he really rates Kostjaysn.
Tyler is cheaper and more versatile.
I get the feeling Randell is not one of Brown's favourites, despite the fact he has been doing a pretty tidy job prior to getting injured.

Randell is a great competitor, id think Brown would love that in a player.
We could do with a top line hooker but for who his looking at i dont see the point tbh.

Isn't Randell in the leadership group??? If we get Kostjasyn, I don't think it will be at the expense of Randell.

C'mon Defender, you're just making excuses now in my opinion. He's just a bog average player. Players don't automatically become good or gain some magic winning culture vibe just because they're in the right team at the right time. Yes he'll probably do a job for us, but literally what is the point when you have Levi & Randell, both who are better options.

How will it not? You can't fit all 3 hookers in the team, either Randell or Levi will have to go. And my bet is on Randell after Brown constantly wraps Levi & never says a word about Randell.

I don't think I'm making excuses, I just call it how I see it...

I did say; I don't think he's a superstar player, and I'm not debating that he's any more than a half decent first grader. I do think however, he'll bring a lot to our squad both on and off the field. From all accounts, he's a professional in the way he prepares himself and he has a good work ethic. He is also a good "club man". Sometime's the off the field stuff can be just as important, and if we're trying to bring in some experienced players to help develop our young guys, someone like Kostjasyn could be an astute signing.

Don't get me wrong. I don't see Kostjasyn as the high profile, match winning player we need . We still need two or three of them to go with him. But, as a $250k squad player we won't get much better.

Speaking of Randall, whatever happened to that Hooker we let go to Canberra? Has he even had a first grade game?
