Katoni Staggs allowed to test the market

I'd love him but just want him out of Brisbane.

Take him out and aside from Haas they have nothing, its hilarious.

Good player but he wants like 800k and to play 5/8th not sure he has the skills we need at 5/8.

Can’t defend to save his life. Makes Tuala look like prime Josh Morris in comparison and he is the new whipping boy on this forum.

Coming back from an ACL injury and wanting to move into the halves where he never played in the juniors if I recall correctly... Throw in his salary demands and it’s a recipe for disaster.

He did beat Australia as Tonga's half back.
I think he could be a Jarome Hughes type half.
But I'd be worried about him coming back from an ACL.

I think if you had tuala in place of staggs for the broncos the last couple years his defense wouldn't be to different.

Personally I very much doubt obzy would be looking at staggs for 5/8 considering toohey said we are looking for a gun centre.

Has Staggs said that he wants to play 5/8? I know it’s been in the media that Brisbane offered it to him

I think it was last weekend that Toohey said in Toohey's news that we were after Chambers and Staggs but both wanted too much money, and we are still looking for a top centre.
I think that makes it about 99% sure that Staggs has had the red pencil put through his name, because Toohey doesn't go public till he's pretty certain.

If we fix 6 & 7, Clifford and Pearce and Watson is our 14 then put Mann to centre which is probably his best and preferred position.
Lee is going, Green is done, Schibs should be gone but maybe not and Tuala should be gone with that we should be looking for decent back up 1 for halves and a centre as good or better than mentioned above. That’s 4 gone with two in leaving room for others that become available, and let’s not forget our two Poms.
The pack and bench are ok if ATTITUDE changes and we have some developing talent in reserves.

The club has been crying poor all year, but if we’re seriously pursuing this, there’s more space in the cap than they’ve said.

Given we don’t want Lee now because of all the injuries, and our stated desire for an “established, experienced centre”, here I was thinking we’d be looking at guys who can defend, who can help our other young guys. Staggs would be a weird signing unless what we really just want is more talent. He’s 22, his defence is *disgraceful*, CBM is right on that count, and he’s still a project himself in a lot of ways.

But toss him the ball and he might score a try out of nothing.

I’m really not sure this is what we need. Only thing I can think of is that the likes of Simi & Dom are further away than we think (or Dom might be seen as a back rower), and the club thinks guys like Momoisea, Saulo, Croker, Smith etc are closer to being first grade ready. Because I look at where we are and think we need a dose of footwork, offloading and line speed through the middle way more than we need a second strike centre. Call up Joe Tapine’s agent and see just how disgruntled he is, that sort of thing.

Thank gosh we missed out on Chambers, when he last left the NRL was as crap as Shibs and Tuala, can't imagine 3-4 years has improved him.
