Kalyn Ponga re-signs with the Knights

The boys on NRL360 made a great point tonight, it's ******** how the NRL let Andre Ponga (KPs dad) manage Kalyns contract. He not a registered NRL agent and it is getting beyond a joke. Andre and/or Kalyn are making us look like a joke, him "deciding" when the contract is announced and how they are taking their sweet *** time to come to a decision. Honestly couldn't care less if he walked at this stage, embarrassing from our club sadly.
All this **** show is caused by the club they new this would happen when they put that crap in the contract ...This isnt Ponga's fault at all .

@cowboyman was right all along about Andre and it's finally starting to show. He has been given too much power at the club and now totally controlling what KP does.

Doesn't sit right with me, even if KP signs his father seems to be the puppet master pulling the strings, what more does he have up his sleeves.

All this contract crap sounds exactly what Cowboyman has been talking about from the beginning. Andre creating a circus and living through his son.

It wouldn't be as bad if Kalyan was actually playing like a top 10 player.

Not saying it isn't our fault but Andre isn't registered with the NRL as an agent, so they really need to step in and stop it from continuing. Knights are at fault for putting these clauses in his contract but the Ponga's (both Kalyn and Andre) and the NRL are crazy for letting Andre continue this circus.

Neither Andre nor the Knights actually wrote the contract.
When the last contract was done there was some article I read somewhere that said Andre hired a lawyer with experience in employment agreements to write the actual contract and the article said the reason the contract was unlike usual NRL contracts is that the lawyer mostly worked with company CEOs and similar.
The Knights and the NRL both had lawyers go through the contract though.
All the clauses that favour Ponga are because he has a good lawyer.
I'd also say the reason he won't say a thing about his contract negotiations at all is because he has a good lawyer.

I don't think there is anything stopping a player negotiating their own contract. If they choose to do that, is there anything stopping their dad being present for negotiations?
Exactly....just an irrelevant side show blown up NRL 360.

They could analyse the game, but sensationalistic ******** gets more clicks and is far easier.

Since when does an employee write their own contract for employment?

This is just getting more and more wierd. Plenty of rumours out there and it is getting bloode frustrating.

I don't begrudge KP taking his time, that is his perogative to do so. It is a big decision and likely negotiations are underway with both clubs to get whatever clauses they can in to the contract from either side and his decision could land with the side that gives him the most freedom to break the contract if he wishes.

But he has to want to play for one club or the other. If he feels a connection here then he should stay even if contract clauses are not all he wishes for. If he is ambivalent to which club he plays for and it is all just a job to him, then I don't want him here. If that is how it is for him then he will continue to be an almost something great player and never become the player he can be.

In the end, both clubs will be paying him very similar money so the decision cannot be purely financial. It has to come down to:

1) Clauses he wants.
2) How he feels playing under Bennett and if he thinks he will improve his game etc. And how he feels playing under OB.
3) Whether we are going to continue to be a dumpster fire of a club on field or will we vie for a Grand Final any time soon.

Noticed an article behind a paywall from the Telegraph saying Ponga's power at the club is causing a division in the team from other senior players.

Going to Dolphins is more risky than coming here. Bennett is doing what he does best. Putting all his eggs in 1 basket and praying for short term success and then abandoning the dumpster fire he created after a couple of years.
Players improve under Bennett even if was for short term success. They get payed more for Dolphins or maybe close to the same here..but we have been a dumpster for decades now cant keep blaming Bennet for that.
Mullen played his season in 2013 under him
Im sure the Dolphins are aware of Bennett's post track record at clubs and have kept that in mind.

Normal workers don't, but a contract is a negotiated agreement agreed to by both parties.
I'd expect most NRL players, through their managers, negotiate clauses and get their own lawyer to review it.
Whichever secretary actually types it up is not relevant - it's agreed to and signed at the bottom by both parties.

Dean Ritchie with the third update to the story saying the contract is now back on the table and could be announced shortly. Also that Andre apologised to management.

Never a great sign of your credibility when you have to update your story three times in three days.

Surely this would have to be the biggest contract circus since dce back flip. Maybe even more absurd...

I get that any contract will be looked over by lawyers.

But I doubt there is an NRL club that lets the player write the contract. The club puts the contract to the player/manager, any clauses can be negotiated.

Except us apparently. If it can be believed that KP had his own contract to play for the Knights written and gave it to the Knights. I just don't believe it.

What player doesn't say , No thats not the contract for me or i want this clause in my contract ...They all do ...
When he signed that contract he wanted it in his favour so if we didn't go well he could get out ...I dont know what all the hoopla is about .
He will go or stay thats all there is too it ... The other thing is you all go off about the crap the daily telegraph writes and then your here quoting what they say about division in the team as fact.
