Kalyn Ponga re-signs with the Knights

Great news for the team and Ponga. You’d hope that would put the distractions to bed now and he starts living upto the hefty price tag and new pay rise.
Reports are saying $5 million for 5 years. Doubt he'd be at $1.2 million now.

A mill a year, I can live with that, probably overs now, hopefully towards the end of the contract it seems like a bargain.

Very pleased with the figure if that’s true. Kind of makes sense as he’s had some pretty big injury issues and we’ve been very patient with him. Maybe that’s the thing which held up the agreement, the number, because in every other respect the club has given him everything he’s ever asked for.

A million is big money, but he likely could have gotten more from the Dolphins.

Perhaps leaving ourselves open in a few years time, new salary cap and potential poaching attempts from other clubs.

Of course we could upgrade him again mid contract.

What I like about this is even though he isn't delivering right now on his potential and expectation, by the end of his contract he will be 29 and we should be starting to hit his prime playing time in the next few years where he really should rise to be one of the best few players in the comp.

We should have him locked in for that time, and should be building towards a premiership within the next 5 years also.

The Safs are 25 and assuming we keep them, they should also be hitting their prime years around the same time. Add to that mix a crafty very capable half, clifford at 5/8 and Brailey at hooker thats a premiership opportunity right there. I'm not given up on Clune at 7, he looked good in the opening rounds and the whole team lost form. If we structure our team right to get the spine all firing we would be potent.

I can see the end goal and how it can be achieved, just have to wait and see if we can get there. I will be bitterly dissapointed if the club squanders this chance.

I'd also like to recognise the club here, where previously they copped a lot of flack for extending Ponga which resulted in little more than a pay rise for him and options in his favour, if the club indeed has got him for 5 years with all those get out clauses removed it's certainly a great piece of negotiation by the club.

My understanding is that it’s a common courtesy thing player agents do, inform the unluggy club that they missed out a couple of days before the deal elsewhere is announced. But that’s because those agents want to keep good relationships with those clubs, re: their other clients. Andre has exactly one client, so obviously he doesn’t give a ****.

Hard to take the Dolphins seriously when they were approaching a player who was contracted for further two years.

Truth is Dolphins are spinning after being knocked back by yet another big name player. They now won’t have a marquee man for next season and are trying to get Munster for 2024.

Surely there has to be other suitors for Munster. If He stays in Melbourne for big money I wonder who they could release?

Don’t think you fully understood the situation. They and Ponga were free to talk because he hadn’t taken up his 2 years player option. Redcliffe in this instance weren’t breaking any rules.

Dolphins crying about not being shown enough respect while leaking private text messages. Go figure.

Ha yeah, pretty poor, clearly sour grapes about missing Ponga, so lashing out.

Someone with the stature in the game like Bennet, and a new club scrabbling to attract anybody really, doesn't look great leaking private texts from negotiations with a player simply to show they didn't tell them they had made a decision elsewhere.

If that is the respect the club is going to show players, good luck attracting others. And Bennet is out there telling people it's not about signing anybody, it's about signing the right people, good people, yet here they are shoving the knife in the back from spite.

Says a lot about the organisation to be honest. I hope they recruit horribly, struggle to field a team and come last.
