I love him as a player and have defended him a lot, but I've noticed he's visibly annoyed by media speculation over his contract when asked about it, and I would say the solution to that is to agree to a long term contract without a labyrinthine collection of get-out clauses.
Pretty sure only Fifita, DCE and Ben Hunt are paid more than him, with some better players taking a commensurate or lower amount than him to be in a more competitive side. He's already the face of a club. It's likely he'll be made captain.
Hard to see what more he could want.
Hard to see what he'd get up at the city of The, Queensland, which he wouldn't get in Newcastle.
Hard to see he'd be closer to winning a comp at a club with as it stands zero players, who've signalled to all and sundry that Jahrome Hughes - a systems player who's not off contract till 2024 and just is not going to justify a million dollar price tag elsewhere, prove me wrong - is their #7 target, and that they're willing to punt on 2023 with a stopgap half while they wait.
Hard to see why it's smart to uproot your family again, including your school aged sister, to play at a club building a culture from scratch, led by a coach who, while admittedly a great of the game, is on the verge of senility and relies heavily on assistants for the actual nitty-gritty of game preparation, and who surely won't be there very long.
So I don't think it will happen, because it seems like a stupid thing to do, which could only possibly be justified by pure financial self-interest. But yeah if he really is committed to the Knights like he says, he should be signing on the dotted line till 25/26 like our other pillars Brailey and D Saf - because winning a comp is hard, you could be the best team in the NRL for three-four straight years and only pick up 1 - with no options or get-outs, and be prepared to continue to build over multiple years. Because often that's what it takes.
