Kalyn Ponga discussion

The point wasn't that Ponga's development is at the same point as Mullo's was when he first played 5/8 for us - the point is that Ponga is older and vastly more experienced than most guys we have thrown in the deep end - including both Lamb and Cogger who Brown was happy to throw to the wolves.

You do know Ponga didnt play a game of league or union until he was 14yrs old?

Yes he is brillant though he is also raw still, he aint a half and the thought of putting him in that position could destroy what is shaping to be a fantastic career.

Im gonna build a wall, and you all are paying for it

I'm the one who wanted to start him on the wing this year to ease him into the side - everyone else wanted to throw him in - so fair enough - if he's good enough he's old enough, like everyone else.

How great does one have to be, put him up as the new Joey but didn't quite make it, played in a not so good side for a lot of years but was always dangerous and could score and ser up tries, always thought we were a chance when he played.
 
I imagine he'd struggle defensively for a while, but I wouldnt be surprised to see Ponga handle 6. But as I said it would be a waste of his talents so early in his career. It doesn't matter that Brown wants a running 6, as we have seen already Ponga is already playing a similar role to Watson, just on different sides of the field.

At the end of the day, no matter how talented a player was, their career legacy is what determines how they're labeled. Mullo was a star junior & was good enough to shine at NRL level, but unfortunately he will be remembered by most as an inconsistent, injury prone half that never played in successful teams, failed Origin half that ultimately ended as a drug cheat. As unfair as it might be, that will be his legacy. He will only be considered great by those who followed him closely throughout his career & knew his talent.
 
Mullen is good friends with a mate of mines sons who were juniors with him at the Knights and he was at 1 of the boys weddings last week and my mate told me that Mullo is still have a very hard time with what and how things happened apparently he is still really hurting ....I know he did the wrong thing but i feel really sorry for him .

He still went outside the club to take something that he knew the club and Nrl would not let him take but i think they were a bit harsh on him ...Its not like he will ever go broke because apparently he invested heavily in property but i still feel sorry for him ....

I liked him, i think its cruel when others getting away with worse but i think it was probably a good thing for the team and hopefully in the long run for Mullen to be forced away from Rugby League it probably took up a little too much of his life if you know what I mean. I didn't know him personally but that was the impression those who where close to him gave me before all this happened

Thats been going around, honestly though Mullo was told to use short esters (all the players are tipped off when the drug tests happen its why there is still a lot on steroids that dont get caught) but he used long esters and got done.

In the end Jarrods fault...

It was only to strengthen his hammy after he twinged it, in saying that he took the chance and now he has to live with it.

I hold nothing against him, he only wanted to play footy for our team.

So do I, he knew what he was doing but if anyone thinks he is the only one on steroids in the nrl they are stupid... Players know when drug tests are coming, clubs dont invest this much money and time to have a star player out because he got caught... Knights have been hiding it for years with joey... Even the ARL knew and hid it... Young men with big egos and too much cash, what do you thinks going to happen..

Hopefully mullo can move on soon and get his life together, top bloke.
 
If a player from any other club used PEDs "just to get back on the field", would everyone here be so sympathetic? He used performance enhancing drugs and got what he deserved.
 
Actually it's not proven that he played "using" anything. He got caught using a banned substance to accelerate and strengthen the healing process. His performance wasn't enhanced at all. Guilty of stupidity but who hasn't been at some stage in life.
