Justin Holbrook discussion

Probably not but I think this is something the club should doing for the members and fans, not the media.

After the **** they dished up this year, I’d hope they’d come out and thank all the people for their support for showing up every week despite the crap they had to endure. Frankly it’s the least they could do.

At least give people some sort of positive message heading into next year and assure people they’re confident of turning things around.

Their members and fan engagement is awful compared to most clubs and it needs to improve. Along with a lot of other things. They won’t though because they know people are still going to show up regardless
Just kind of feel like if they did that the reaction would be, "we've heard it all before, why should we believe things will be different?"

At the end of the day the results on the field next year will be what they're judged on.

Holbrook won't have anything to say yet.
If he held a presser and they asked him about who would play what role etc etc etc - he would only be able to say he needs to meet everyone, watch a lot of video, do a bunch of training sessions, and then he'll work out what his team would look like.
All he could really say would be JSaf won't be playing fullback and Ponga has been ruled out for prop.

He had a brief interview on Triple M this arvo. Recap:

- Said he’s still finishing up with the Roosters post-season reviews and obligations, has presentation night on Thursday and then he’ll be up in Newcastle on Friday.
- Said he’s confident he can turn the Knights around quickly just as he took the Titans from the bottom to 9th and 8th in his first 2 seasons.
- Says he’s hoping to meet with Ponga as soon as he gets up here on Friday.
- Jokes that he’s already getting in Nawaqanitawase's ear about coming to the Knights instead of the Roosters or going back to Union.

Sad part about that is he is coming in off a spoon year and can only improve really to be seen as "improved", yet for the past few seasons before that we were a top 8 team.

He can't be seen as doing worse than AOB did this season, a low bar already.

Hopefully he means turn it around from being knocked out of the finals so early, or having such bad attack, as opposed to just making the finals which we are already likely to bar injuries as we had this year. Always just pr.

Interesting that no team in Harold Mathews has been to more GF's then Newcastle over the past 13 years. Newcastle made the GF half the time.

I've been on about that like a broken record for years - and up till about 2 or 3 years ago, it was pretty much local kids only in under 16s.

The saddest thing is the 2019 Matts side was our best, and virtually the entire side was immediately poached - players went to Melbourne, Cronulla, Canberra, Dolphins, Manly, Parra. At one stage we had zero players from that side, but we finished last year with Crouch, Henderson and Jacob Davis.

Our Tarsha Gale side has an even better record, making the grandfinal in all but 2 years and finals every year the comp has existed.

It's funny that he never mentions Dom Young.
I suppose it's because Dom's role is set in stone and he's only talking about guys he might move around, but he's also part of the coaching team that were happy to release Dom this year.

I don’t expect him to have heaps to say about the playing roster or who will play where yet. But just the process of getting the job, his overarching plans for the role and his vision for the club are all worth hearing about.
