They've done similar with a few staff positions. Pinched Hayden Knowles from Penrith when he was regarded as the best in the business. Think David Furner was the highest paid assistant in the comp his one year here. AOB himself was regarded as the next whiz kid coach when they went after him. Also went as close to buying an NRLW premiership as you can get when they poached Boyle and Upton from the Broncos with by far the biggest contracts ever signed in the NRLW up to that point out of they own pockets.

You could argue they weren't being smart with their money because they were giving all of these toys to a head coach who wanted to do everything his own way and hire his inexperienced mates as assistants, but they're clearly willing to spend.

Mate, they made a mistake; they thought he'd cracked in 2023. They weren't the only ones to get that wrong.

I would suggest it's one of the reasons Gardner realised he needed to step down as Knights CEO and hand it over to Parr.

Gardner was always going to step down at some point. It even seemed like he hinted as much at times.
Peter Parr had plenty of experience and was probably being groomed for the role as we speak, it would not surprise me if that was the case based off the man management we have heard from him and his close ties to the football department, and just in general being an all round knowledable footy guy.
And we still have to acknowledge he put people in the positions they are in now to be successful

Yep heard Gardener interviewed 12 months before he stepped down . Said there was already a succession plan in place for the Knights & Wests
