James Schiller discussion

This is what I have been thinking all year! They have the same running style where they look like the slowest person on the planet but are somehow out pacing others
I think that’s what hurt him with some fans on here at the start when people said he was the “slowest winger ever”.

I knew he was some sort of quick because we’ve seen it at the Raiders but his style looks like he is running in quick sand and yet still out paces players, he hugs the touchline all the time which helps as he is instantly on the outside shoulder of his man

Totally unacceptable online rubbish against this guy. It’s a game. Sure we aren’t going great, but to give death threats to a player is just criminal in itself. The police should chase this troll down and deal with him.

Completely agree, I don’t condone any sort of personal attack against players, what they do is hard work, Schiller was trying it just didn’t pan out for him on his wrong side as he is normally a right sided player.

It’s disgusting what he has had to put up with, I hope they throw the book at the person who did it

First time poster. I think the club and fans should be doing more to uplift Schiller. Reading this article makes me wonder if he’s been properly supported, especially by the fans, given half the comments I’ve seen about him are over-the-top harsh. Yes, he’s had some errors, but his stats showcase far more good than bad. A natural finisher whose skillset hasn’t been properly harnessed due to the performance of the team as a whole. He’s a natural right winger/centre and has performed valiantly wherever they put him.

Before even getting a chance to get a full season as a Knight and establish himself as a top grade player, the club brings back Dom and he gets automatically dropped, which I’d argue would hurt more than being dropped over performance. He’s shown glimpses of very high level football, but he hasn’t been given luxury of a solidified position (like some people in the team and NRL do, who perform far worse, consistently) to really mould into a consistent top grade player. I’d argue his performances starting slipping when the Dom rumours started, go figure.

He has far more upside than most people are willing to acknowledge and to top it all off, he’s had to deal with a genuine death threat. Yet, some of ours fans are almost waiting to pick him apart on social media and this forum. The same people who probably said Tom Jenkins wasn’t first grade quality, but now that he’s in a system that gives him confidence and freedom to express himself on the field, he’s one of the most consistent wingers in the comp right now.

Head up Schiller, your best is yet to come. Hopefully it’s at the Knights and hopefully the fans will back you.

He's only 20, so if the magistrate thought he was genuinely remorseful, I don't have a problem with it. The conviction is going to be a significant thing for him to have to deal with going forward.

WRT James Schiller. I still have high hopes for him as a Knight. He's got work to do to fix issues in his game, but his positive stats showed he has plenty of upside if he can do that. If they shop anyone, I hope it's Marz, whose carries no longer cancel out the fact that teams are using his problems under the high ball and in defence as a cheat code to beat the Knights on easy mode.

Marzhews issues under the highball are often not helped by his inside mens lack of protection, im not saying he isnt a liability in the air but its one of the areas both best and lucas need to get better at.

Schiller is a confidence player and no doubt has taken a bit of a whack mentally. For me he is an outstanding athlete with a LOT of promise and has showed many glimpses of his potential, I hope we haven’t seen the last of him.

As far as the gronk that made death threats, 20 years old is not an excuse. I did silly things at that age but threatening people’s lives has always been the most brain dead howzo thing imaginable, (besides actually doing it)

I don’t know, you get angry, you imagine what you are going to do, search up James, type the message. There’s a lot of time to cool down and wake up to yourself. $750 is laughable.

Absolutely right, it's not an excuse, but as I said, if he's shown remorse, the fine is not the big issue, it's the conviction which the magistrate refused to set aside. He'll be up for heaps in costs anyway.

Does Schiller want that? I kinda doubt it, but sure if he does. But again, conviction is serious; he can't travel overseas, rules him out of a stack of jobs, and getting into further trouble will impact him significantly.

I’ve got zero sympathy for him. Cowardly act of the highest order.

I'm not defending the bloke, just pointing out that the fine isn't the important part of his sentence. Given he sounds like his dad is cashed up I'm sure they would have happily paid a much, much higher fine to avoid the conviction.

Yeah, maybe not. Perhaps fronting up to a full team meeting before a game might be more appropriate.

The kid obviously isnt the brightest spark. He got emotional. Was probably on the ****. Did something very dumb, grotesque, unfair and regrettable.

Public humiliation is a severe form of punishment, particularly for a 20 yo who at the end of the day said some flagrantly ridiculous tripe in a strangers DMs. Worthy of punishment, for sure.

But anyone who feels like he should systemically pay for this for the rest of his life is detached from reason. And tbh, probably doesnt have children of their own.

Yeah honestly an example has made out of him, I’m surprised he actually got a conviction. That’s a clear sign this sort of thing is being taken a lot more seriously. Magistrates as a general rule do not hand out convictions lightly. In fact they tend to avoid doing so as much as possible.
