Well, now that Brooks ain't coming I'll say it. Brooks was the one who said he'd be at the Knights in 23'. The club and player had agreed to terms. It's was done. Both parties wanted it.
Obviously things changed, we got lucky.
So Brooks told you that he was coming ? If that's the case then tigers are really dumber than I thought. Why would you keep a player at the club who doesn't want to be there ?

Knights were given permission to negotiate with Brooks for next year, but haggling over how much freight the Tigers would pay on it turned out to be the major stumbling block. Which is allegedly what happened last time as well if you believe rumours.
I’m guessing the Knights wanted the Tigers to eat a big, big chunk of it - imagine if you bring Brooks in for $550K and then he flourishes playing under his idol and a coach who’s won FOUR PREMIERSHIPS! What a masterstroke!
Hastings is the safer but arguably lower-ceiling prospect from an on-field perspective, but I reckon he did enough to be expecting offers above $700K on his next deal.
They wanted to bet on Brooks’ potential, but settled for the pricier but safer option.
From Wests’ perspective - imagine if they are paying half a million for a guy who’s killing it elsewhere? How bad would they look? And Sheenius brought Luke into their system to begin with but never got his crack at coaching him - in his arrogance I’m sure he believes if it was him at the helm, Luke would have reached his potential.
That’s my read on it anyway. Egos and worrying about optics ruled the roost on it, until pre-season really started looming and the Knights, looking down the prospect of coming up empty-handed again, made the only decision they could.
Most on here are happy it turned out how it did I’m sure but geez.

For Luke Brooks’ part, I’m sure showing up for pre-season knowing the club didn’t really actually want you, they’re just scared of hypothetical embarrassment & have a hard limit on how much they’ll pay you to play somewhere else, will be great for his morale and dedication.

Fairly obscure hill for one to die on, 'a failed half from a failed club is our next halves signing'.. Of all the things to make up, why that? No one wanted to hear that Brooks was signed sealed and delivered. You may forget how early I posted that news. It was well before all the media heat sprung up about it. But I guess that was just a weird coincidence.
We dodged a bullet. That's what happened.

It’s all just abit of banter, I love the conjecture and rumours in the off season keeps me interested/sane and on my toes.

All‘s well that ends well!
It was having the mail early that got me excited. I told every knights fan I could get hold of. Even at the girls civic celebration, i told the daughter if we got close enough to Bedsy I'd say "Great news about Brooks signing here" just to see his reaction. She was glad he moved on before I could. I was never sold on Brooks but was hoping Joey could make it work somehow? I think Hastings is a much better fit, on the the field at least. I hope he becomes a leader, not a disruptor off it.
Our depth is still a conern. Lose hastngs to long term inhury, we have gamble, clune and crossland to cover. Not very exciting, same goes wth forwards, lose a twin and our meter eating is concerning. Need another forward with experience.
Season will truly be defined by not only luck of injuries, but also the team and staff collectively fighting for each other. Day in day out.
I hate the talk of "I can't wait for AOB to be sacked" from fans, its ********. I want to see success with who we all thought was a great signing and in his first two seasons, got us to finals series and againt Parra was a great hance of knocking them off. 22 season was a major bugger up, but I want to back the man, I want to see him with the likes of Parr and the toughness of McDermit succeed.
I'm backing him to get what he needs out of not only the players, but to change the culture of the club, so that not only this year is a success (top 8 vying for top 6) but years to come with junior development and smart recruiting.

Most clubs are stuffed if they lose their starting halfback tbh. You won’t find much better cover than Gamble or Clune if you run the ruler through other squads. Sean O’Sullivan was probably the best performing back up 7 last year and he’s going to be a starter at a different club this year. Braydon Trindall is probably the best back-up half in the NRL now.
