Hunter Sports Group closes Jets

Why when he acquired the Knights it was on our terms. The club returns to the members if he pulls out($1 plus debts if i recall correctly). He took over the jets to save them so he got them on his terms and how anyone can defend the FFA's actions is beyond me unless you accept incomptence

The FFA are just as responsible in the whole.thing. they are incompetent. But HSG doing this is a low act for someone trying to be socially responsible.

I have dealt with Tinker businesses before. He is not to be trusted.

Yes cos a RL team that at the time of being bought was returning small profits, has has everything going for it and is in a prospering competition with sustainable management and a soccer team that was losing more a year then the knights would in a decade, with little going for it in a crumbling competition with incompetent management are so much alike ther fates must be linked.

Both sides could have sat down like adults and sorted it out. But no, they go and pull this **** move. Imagine if they did that with the Knights...you'd be just as ****ed.

Went to probably half a dozen Jets games this season, will be sad to see them go if nobody else picks them up. This is not a HSG issue as far as I can see. The FFA is run by idiots, and I wouldn't be surprised to see more teams drop out before next season.

The thing is and its really important because its something jets fans struggle with and that's that Tinks can't do this to the Knights as we get the club back for a $1. He got handed the Jets with a contract that favored him were as he got the Knights under a contract that ensured the clubs long term survival under Tinks or back in the fans hands.

Yeh I agree with Dan, you gotta feel for the Jets fans, as they are the real losers in this whole situation. Tinkler never really liked soccer, so he wasnt going to keep pouring millions in if this started to go pear shaped.

I've got no idea what the details are, or whose side to be on though as i dont follow the A-league, but the FFA must be pretty ordinary for a team to just give their license back.

And I think the $27million is for all clubs across the A-league, not solely the jets. Is there any clubs pulling a profit? if not it mustn't be a very good business model the A-League are running as most of the teams have entire cities to draw their sponsorship and fans from. Also their seasons arent in direct competition with NRL, AFL and Super 15. I'd say they are having to spend too much on their players to try and compete on a world stage?

How does this still fix the still very incompetent and unsustainable management of the game, and the million that they have to invest into a minnow sport in Australia. What do you suggest they do, fund it till they go broke?

Part of the agreement for take over of the knights means he cant do this to the knights.

Oh an just remember btw, without Tinks you wouldn't have even got a 11/12 season.

The salary cap is more then double the club grant. Says it all really.

The knights have also proved in the past that if manage correctly it can be profitable, or at least break-even as long as crowd numbers are decent. And thats without the extra funding the game will get next TV deal.

So even if Tinkler were to do this to the knights (which he can't) the members will get the club back and have a realistic chance at keeping the club alive under the old business model. I dont think that would be possible with an A-league side.

well there you go, a lot of clubs in the NRL struggle for profits and the grant is only slightly less than salary cap, so i can imagine how A-league clubs struggle seeing as they would get less sponsorship $$$ and less crowds/members/merchandise $$$. When the next TV deal comes in, and the grant exceeds the salary cap, clubs will be much more sustainable in the NRL.

As mentioned above, I don't think Tinkler would ever do this to the Knights with the conditions of his arrangement - he has put too much effort in to walk away with a dollar. And besides that, under the terms of the arrangement, he will be putting in a lot less money than with the Jets, especially if, as expected, the new tv deal leads to greater exposure for the game, and therefore greater chances for sponsorship.

As I understand it, he tops up our sponsorship revenue to ten mil each year ... any fees to play in the NRL come from the club itself. The NRL isn't stupid enough to charge private owners a fee to play in the comp, and definitely not vastly different sums of money depending on who you are.

But at the end of it, I support the Knights, not Tinkler, and will do so for the rest of my life, regardless of what Tinkler does!

It seems like Tinkler will just pack up and go home as soon as things don't go his way. I just hope he never has a disagreement with the new league commission because it will take the worlds biggest piece of humble pie to admit that Burro was right and we are all fools.

Big news. Doesn't affect me but it will affect alot of other people, I have seen countless people walking around in a Jets jersey. I'd hate to see how the members on the Jets forum are like right now.

That was because members held out and told him off.

What, so you rather the guy just sink 6 million dollars a year of his income into a money pit. Just because the guys is worth a billion doesn't mean he has a billion.

If he was well and truly into supporting the community, like he kept on bleating about when he took over the club, that would not have been a problem.

As I've said, the FFA may be full of idiots, but based on my previous experience, you hang around and cause a nuisance. Not take your bat and ball and **** off.

Thank you. Have a think - imagine if the Knights did not have the safety net of the $1 + debt buyback offer, and he went ahead and do that. You would be spewing.

Well, until Tinkler untangles himself from the club, I won't be back. I've not gone and supported another basketball team since the Falcons and Pirates disappeared.

It seems like Tinkler will just pack up and go home as soon as things don't go his way. I just hope he never has a disagreement with the new league commission because it will take the worlds biggest piece of humble pie to admit that Burro was right and we are all fools.

I supported it with a cautious eye based upon what I've known from dealing with his businesses. Unfortunately my fears came true.

If they do go I'll be shattered. So many good memories in the squadron, didnt miss a home game all season, went both coast & sydney aways this season & all 3 Melbourne games

Planning to make a banner with the words: FFA

Forever
Failing
Alliance

Jets forum going off atm, ohh btw I'm superdylan on there if anyone didn't know.

What an arrogant and selfish thing to say

Not when it's costing you 7 figures a year in the meantime and the FFA would be better managed by a group of monkey's.

But we do have that safety net, so it's a moot point.

As above.

How do you expect people to react when the FFA bring in 2 teams in the GC and the Fury, precede to blow big money on the WC bid, and when they lose decide that the GC and the Fury are no longer needed so we'll use the first chance we can to be rid of them. Then precede to **** off the 2 biggest and richest people in the competition, granted Palmer is insane. Not to mention they have 9 club making 27 million in losses a year, and rather then consolidate the team they have now and work on making their existing clubs more sustainable they throw all their money reserves into building a new sydney team, because Lowy wants it.

Wasn't much choice other then to pull the team out.

Your sprewing that he is pulling the team out, how quickly you forget that the team wouldn't even have played this year if it wasnt for him. The long would never stand as a member owned club and there was no one else around to buy it. Should count your blessings you were gifted another season.

But dont give up all hope, perhaps we'll see the Jets in Palmers rebel comp:rolleyes:, or maybe he is doing this as a drastic move to get the FFA to finally get off ther asses and do something about thestate of the game. Oh the hypocrisy if that was true and they start singinghim praises again.

Anyone who has followed Tinkler's involvement in horse racing (changing trainers on a petulant whim) will not be surprised by this at all.

I still think Tinkler's takeover of the Knights was a good thing, however it's another reason we should be thankful to Robbie Tew and the old board for not rolling over to the first Tinkler offer (as many on here were advocating), and extracting the best possible deal for the club from the big fella.

Horse racing please. Most horse trainers are the biggest thieves you will meet. I could not possibly judge someone because they fell out with or sacked a horse trainer. I wouldn't cross the road to watch a game of soccer so as long as the Knights are safe that's all that matters to me. There someone had to say it.

Well, you don't write cheques your arse can't cash. You don't go out trying to be all things to all people when you're not.

There's a thing called doing the right thing by the people who answered the call when they were calling for 10,000 members. By the kids who aspire to play for a local team in the nation's top competition. For those who believe in this region's ability to perform at any sport you can throw at.

But we do have that safety net, so it's a moot point.

You have the imagination of a rock, so I will put it in terms even you can understand.

Imagine if there was no safety net. The club was turned into a 100% privately owned consortium. Like the Sydney Kings (Google Sydney Kings Firepower). Now imagine if that had happened to the Knights.

The Jets was never owned by the members - do your mother****ing research. It was owned by someone whose heart was in the right place but had no long term business acumen. Yes, the FFA were in the wrong, but Tinkler and HSG have done the wrong thing BY THE FANS who put in their money to support the team. They're both as dumb as each other.

Anyone who has followed Tinkler's involvement in horse racing (changing trainers on a petulant whim) will not be surprised by this at all.

My thoughts exactly. There is also a lot of talk that he hasn't quite got the money to back himself up.

Tew might be considered a hero if this is proven to be the case and Tinkerbell turns out to be Muswellbrook's biggest bull**** artist since Shayne Hayne.

That is why I am not going back to another game until this whole thing is sorted out. I may or may not hand in my membership as yet, but it is a very attractive option.

Bigdan, no businessman in their right mind is going to continue throwing away money, especially when they are being unfairly penalised compared to other clubs.

Unless you would needlessly spend millions in Tinkler's position (and I doubt it) then you have no basis to complain about Tinkler.

To be honest, this does smack of Tinkler's shenanigans when he pulled out of negotiations with the Knights a bit, though. If he receives his money back from the a-league without having to go to court, then I think he may change his mind re: the Jets.
