Harold Mathews and SG Ball 2026

Hats off to Matt Lantry for getting those boys looking like they might struggle to make the finals to being there today. Not the result in our favour but I think it can be said that Lantry is a catalyst in developing these boys. Full credit to you Mr Lantry.
Now let them continue to develop - give them time in Flegg sure but don’t be accelerating them outside of that. They have PLENTY of time!

What a season for all the juniors, a testament to the efforts of the club in this department.

Shame about Ball today, I think a few a being a bit harsh on the young fullas. The tactic was clear to blow them out of the water early and try and hold on, and it didn’t work out. A GF is still a successful season, and while a title is good, I’d much rather a good crop of players develop into first graders.

An interesting thing I noticed with the Ball side was big Sione Haukinima has been on the sidelines for the last few games. I think he was injured in his only game of Ball this year (played Mathews last year) and a few games ago the team scored an important try and somehow Sione got into the team huddle in a tracksuit out the back of the ingoal and he was as excited or even more so than anyone else. He was on the sidelines (inside the fence) again today, looking overjoyed when we scored.
I don't understand what his role is, but I really like that the big guy is loving the success of his mates.

Sione did his knee in the storm game at the beginning of the season and was out for the whole season. Riley Wells did his AC joint in the finals against storm but played the following week against Manly then broke his nose in that game then today played again and by the looks of it his shoulder wasn't too good by the end, which is a shame because he's tough and a really good player.
