Gower at No7

Angelus

Cory Denniss
Alright, at this stage of the season, now that Gower has shaken off his jet lag and had a run with the team, who thinks he'll finish up in the #7?

Seems like he's keen on it ... who knows what Bennett's thinking though. Be interesting to see the team tomorrow!

I'd be happy to bring him off bench into half, Roberts to hooker for bedsy, ideally I would just prefer gower to start I just don't know if Bennett will drop ty to bench.

The team should have done nothing else during this 2 week break than to run drills with Bedsy at hooker, Gower at halfback and Mullen at 6 - It's our one hope to revive our season.

So, if Gower goes to 7, what of Tyrone? Interchange with Buderus?

6. Mullen
7. Gower
9. Buderus
14. Roberts

Middle of 1st half: Roberts changing with Bedsy, playing hooker...
Last 20: Bedsy change for Gower, pushing Roberts to halfback...

6. Mullen
7. Gower
9. Buderus
14. Roberts

The line up looks good, question taking gower off in the last 20 where u may need the experience on the field to get us home, something we have been lacking

There's no place for Roberts in the side.
He is 21 and has played a hell of a lot more firstgrade than most guys his age. In fact, most guys don't debut till they are his age or older.
It wouldn't hurt him to be the senior playmaker in reserve grade for a while. He needs to learn to take control if he is going to wear the 7.

Billy I agree, Bennett has sacked Lewis surely he can demote Roberts for the better of the team. As mentioned I would love to see Clydsdale play the hooking role with bedsy and have gower start.

Agree with Billy, Roberts can go back and learn how to lead a team and get more involved. He's still extremely young and has the time to take the NRL experience back to the NSW Cup, work on his own game while training with Gower and Mullen and Gids and come back later on in the year or next year a better player. It should be 6. Mullen 7. Gower 9. Buderus 14. Clydsdale and it'll be the exact same story with Clydsdale when Gidley returns.

Craig Gower's push to play full game at half for Newcastle Knights

HE'S only had a handful of training sessions and 32 minutes at hooker off the bench against Melbourne, but veteran Craig Gower is confident of going the distance if needed at halfback for the Knights against Gold Coast on Sunday.

The question is, does Wayne Bennett think he is ready?Gower put his hand up yesterday to play halfback against the Titans as the Knights battle to end a drought which has seen them lose six of their past seven matches and tumble out of the top eight."Yeah, I think so but that's up to Wayne," Gower said when asked if he is ready to play the full 80 minutes.

"It would have been good to play last week to get a few games under the belt but that's the way it goes."I haven't spoken to Wayne. We'll sit down and have a chat and see where we are at, dissect my game and discuss it."Being the conservative he is, Bennett seems more likely to continue easing Gower back into NRL from the bench.

Ben ikin has come out and said gower will be half for rest of year, fair or unfair on Roberts? I like how gower ran to the line more bringing forwards onto the ball but must take into consideration broncs looked off their feet in that part of game.

A decent halfback is the missing link in our side - we have the backs - we have the forwards - we have the 5/8 - we have at least one hooker - we just need a half of the quality needed to win a grandfinal.
To give Roberts his due, he is playing the best football of his life since Gower arrived and Dobson was signed and he has probably shown enough to say he will be a longterm halfback for us.
Right now - Gower is the player we need to get the most out of the other 16 quality players we have on the field.

I think Bennett was waiting for the game where Tyrone could be pulled off all along to justify the purchase of Gower.

But we need a goal kicker, we just cannot win games without one. Think we will persist with Roberts until Gidley comes back, but even then who takes goals when he's off the field.

Bet Roberts will still start next week, and why is Gower kicking, I don't remember him ever being a kicker? Also, why has Mullen never tried converting, he can make any kick in the game, and yet he doesn't kickoff/convert
