You'd really want to decide who wins a premiership game by reducing the players down to 7 vs 7?!
THE FOUR OPTIONS
1. Keep the status quo. Michael Maguire is the lone supporter of golden point in its current format. Most now believe the pressure on referees and players to react conservatively is a turnoff. TV ratings do spike when extra time starts.
2. Tweak to golden try. There have been no tries in 19 golden point passages since the 2010 finals. David Furner believes this would be a solution to encourage more attacking football, while still delivering a result.
3. Apply a drop-off rule. Steve Price is a fan and Wayne Bennett would even prefer it to the current system. Commonly used in touch football, teams lose a player at defined intervals to open more space and scoring opportunities.
4. Revert to a traditional draw. Comfortably the favored option among coaches, with more than half happy to settle matches as they were for 95 years.
So our current coach is in favor of my drop off rule!
Even if they drop it, how do we decide finals?
The fact ratings spike with extra time means its very unlikely fox or nbn will want it dropped...
Guess we will find out later this year or early next
David Middleton says this,
► four points for a win in regular time
► three points for a win in extra time
► two points for a draw
► one point for a loss in extra time
► zero points for a loss in regular time
I wouldnt mind this! This promotes attacking play.
Winner 13+ 4pts
Winner 1-12 3pts
Draw 2pts ea
Loser 1-12 1pt
Loser 13+ 0 pts.
I know it wouldnt really work but should see more attacking footy... prolly even bump it up more than 13+ though
