Struggling to see what situation Cleary comes on for. Presumably his injury means his can't kick ... conversions or field goals off the table. Maybe if it's a very close game and they just want someone to talk them around the field for the final ten or something?

The cynic in me says it’s disrespectful. But I don’t think it’s that.
But I actually think he’s pretty badly injured. They have one eye on a grand final next week and resting his foot is how they give themselves the best chance next week.
If he played 80 on it today, I reckon he’d be no good next week. I don’t think he can get through 80 minutes on it.
If they are winning - no harm, he can rest it.
If they are trailing, I think he comes on second half to try and win them the game. He ain’t playing next week if they are trailing, so may as well go out swinging and risk aggravating it.
I guess the thinking is he might only have 20-30 minutes in him, do you want him for the start of the game, then he comes off because he can't handle things, or at the end of the game when it's in the balance.

I've always kind of suspected something like this might've been in the cards with Cleary, but the other two benched are surprising. Brandy also said Cleary will be on after 20 minutes and kicking as per usual for what that's worth.
Might be thinking they can at least hold the fort for the first 20-30 minutes with the starters and then bring all 3 of the big names off the bench to blow it open? Still seems a bizarrely dramatic move if Cleary is even capable of playing 60. My head says he doesn’t get on the field at all.

That would be the worse possible outcome. Imagine being ahead, then Cleary comes on injured with 20mins to go and they win. We’d never hear the end of it like he’s the second coming of god

Edward’s said they knew early on he wasn’t starting so his foot must be pretty bad. Hopefully their “injury luck” is finally up.

Had to open an early beer to settle the nerves here. All the lead up this week, watching all the motivational clips, the awesome Newy crowds giving the team a send off on their way out and now the pre game show talking about their incredible journey, it’s been so long since having this excited/nervous vibe for this team. I’m so pumped for these boys, they nearly make me want to move to Newcastle
