Some rough ratings by Fox. They all should go up a half at least!
Hopwood 6 (34 tackles, none missed. 7)
Graham 5.5 (great run and was showing some Phoenix signs of desperation. 6.5)
Croker 7 (8.5 Yeo style in the 1st half. 8)
Crossy 8.5 (if that’s not a 10 on D alone, what is? 9.5!)
Before the game I had the 2023 finals match going through my mind.
As we entered the final 10 I had last year’s Halasima final second try going through my mind.
And then Ponga went off with an HIA with under ten minutes left, the same happened in round 1, 2023 vs the Warriors in Wellington, I had flashbacks to that game too!
Feels great to come out on the right side vs the Warriors in NZ, for once.

We were never going to win playing conventionally against their pack. Same will go with Penrith. Backs will have to do the running and the forwards tackle for their lives. Hopefully just make the most of any opportunities they get. Won’t be able to bomb any tries against Penrith though

Just got home from the pub and a thousand celebratory schooners. What a great win. Defensively the last few weeks we’ve been fantastic. The outside backs were excellent especially Marzhew.
Our forwards deserve a huge rap too. Lachlan Crouch was immense off the bench. Friz, Hopwood and Crossland were all great particularly defensively.
So proud of them. Already got my tickets for next week.. Bring on the smug.

We have ended the seasons of a lot of clubs this season.

The Best knock on went in our favour for sure. I reckon it probably did hit the Warriors player but there wasn’t sufficient evidence to overturn it.
Marzhew dropped the ball too imo. Was a loose carry.
No issue with the Frizell one though he was competing for the ball and the Warriors player made contact with him trying to milk a penalty. Was 100% the right call.

Maybe it’s my tv but there was a deviation as it went past his thumb. You could see it on both angles they showed
Of the contentious calls:
The forward pass i can't argue with, but you see more of those let go then called because of the momentum of the passer.
Shoulder to Ponga's head, forceful, sin bin all year.
Best knock on, shot from behind the defender clearly showed the ball change direction. I can understand Webster arguing about the length of time it took, but we got the right call.
Marzhew knock on was a loose carry. I reckon Klein was guessing that the ball was played at given the position of the game and we got lucky that there was just enough evidence to stick with the on field decision. Crucially, Wahs lose their challenge.
The Friz one, I'm glad the challenge was gone because this would have been a lottery once it went to the bunker. The rulings on these have been a lottery all year. I don't know what players are supposed to do in Friz's situation other then what he did. He is in a legitimate position when the ball goes up. He moved towards the ball with eyes on it. I have no doubt he is aware he is protecting a catcher coming forward, but there are also situations where catchers don't go up for the ball and, facing his own try line, he may be the best person to make a play for the ball. Surely he is entitled to be there? And the Wahs player had no intention other then a collision with Friz and play for the penalty.

You just have to accept the decisions at the end of the day. No point going into forensic detail on each one. Warriors had plenty of chances to win the game if they were good enough, and same for us … and we made 17 errors, the Warriors 14. We accept that, but somehow the refs are meant to be perfect.

What Frizell did was absolutely cynical and I wouldn't have been blowing up if it was called, but he did as good a job at masking it as you could do. He's allowed to go toward the ball, and he kept his eye on the ball and arms out the whole time. There was no sideways glance out of the corner of his eye or late movement.
Warriors have also benefited from diving and cynical plays more than any team all year, can't turn around and cry when they get a taste of their own medicine.

Greg's ball control not good enough there but honestly TMM was dumb to use the challenge, he would have felt his hand making that motion and that's what's pulled the ball out. Maybe 1 out of 10 times the penalty gets reversed there.
The Friz one, even if you're absolutely convinced that's a bad call, it's a bad call because of a rod the game has made for its own back. And also, quite frankly, one some very cynical coaches have made for the game. It's almost exactly like the Storm's 2024-25 ruck cheating innovation of deliberately leaving players in and on either side of the play the ball when the other team gets a roll on (because the game had stopped giving the attacking team penalties for dummy half players hitting offside defenders); at some stage the officials will stop rewarding a cynical tactic. If your team is the biggest reason the officials have to play whack-a-mole with cynical tactics constantly, I don't want to hear it. Oh did the referee start to think "hey maybe this team that mysteriously has a kick chaser get 'knocked over' by a blocker ten times more than everyone else is simulating the contact somewhat?" Wow, perish the thought.
A lot of bandwagoners atm in NZ, but have to say the Warriors fans that have come on here have been really great, knowledgeable and insightful. Hope they’re not feeling too gutted!
