FIFA World Cup 2026

I turned on with 20 left and England haven’t fired a shot in that time.
It’s been a pretty tough battle. Physical in midfield. Lots of pressure. Both teams pressing. Lots of “tactical” fouls.
England managed to keep Messi pretty quiet.

But yeh, not too many shots. Once England got the lead, they’ve just been set up to try and defend that lead.

Argentina just can score from anywhere and play til the final whistle. How many late goals have they scored this tournament.

As Knights fans, ie., followers of a team that has spent a long time out in the wilderness, I think we can empathise with the English fans.

That said, I don't think England were going past Spain anyway. And if Argentina is reliant on late game heroics again (I think they said in post-match commentary that Argentina have scored 8 goals in the last 10 minutes of games), they will find Spain much harder to break down.

Argentina must have been watching old videos of Wally Lewis in Origin. Play it tight until the last 20 minutes then go and win the game. Fair play to them, they deserved the win. Hit the post twice and had numerous other chances.

60 years of hurt…..and counting….😓

Have you guys seen this photo of Messi bathing a baby Lamine Yamal in 2007? That's crazy!! Did the bathwater somehow transfer Messi skills in to the infant? If any of you have kids, get Andrew Johns to give them a bath. I've got to post this in one of the main threads...

Dear @Thieves Like Us and the @The Artist Formerly Known as Aku'd: keep calm and carry on!

There is always the home Ashes next year to build your hopes up for. 🤣
Our resident Anglophobe. Imagine the tears and whining we would have to endure on this forum from you if your old boss Cowboyman ridiculed your beloved Knights. You have very low standards fella and a real lack of class. That’s always been apparent when the red and blue isn’t on you.

Hurt losing that game. Not going to lie. Thank you for twisting the knife.

Viva Espana

Mate, I’ve only just come out of a broken hearted haze…..! I think we would’ve struggled to beat Spain, but why we didn’t go for the second goal immediately is beyond me. Got what we deserved with those tactics but as the pain dissipates, we can enjoy a some decent memories. Just zero with the old Jules Rimet.

The thing is I had given up hope of England winning a major tournament. For some reason I started to believe again this WC making the fall even more painful.

We definitely showed a poorer mentality compared the Spanish when going 1 up. They maintained their composure and shape to push for the second. We went completely into our shells and paid the price. They were there for the taking but we **** the bed.

Viva Espana indeed!

Has anyone on one side or the other of a GOAT debate copped a more brutal series of L’s than the CR9 stans?

I don’t consider myself a football expert but it always seemed pretty obvious to me that Messi was not just better, but way way better. Surely this is the consensus by now with anyone but the most stubborn take-locked clowns.

I’m on the Messi side of the debate. Just don’t love the arrogance of Ronaldo.

BUT, I will say one thing, Ronaldo is an absolute machine.

Messi the most naturally gifted footballer in my time. (Never saw Maradona or Pele) He has outstanding natural ability. Watch him play, he basically walks like 50% of the time, it’s like he knows nothing will eventuate. Then he picks his moment and bam. His skills are unmatched. Obviously works hard etc, but I don’t think he puts in anywhere near as much effort as Ronaldo.

I saw a mini documentary on Ronaldo. The way he eats. The way he trains. He’s probably the most dedicated athlete. He absolutely earns his spot in the debate with sheer determination and hard work. Like he’s training at 110% to hang onto the last few years of his career, so he remains competitive. It definitely made me appreciate him a lot more than I did. He doesn’t do himself any favours though with public perception.

Will be very interesting to see how Portugal go moving forward, when he’s out of the picture. At times he saves them, at times they are hamstrung by trying to keep him happy (on the pitch) when they need to do something else.

This is a forum where people can express their views as long as they don’t abuse others.

I don’t resort to personal abuse like you did, you need to harden up. I just say what a lot on here think.

In the end Cowboyman just wanted to abuse people and that is why he is no longer posts here.

Go Les Blues and Espana!

Don’t disagree, but I think you can basically say the exact same stuff about Robert Lewandowski, he just doesn’t have the same aura I guess.

Always thought the gap between Messi and Ronaldo was bigger than the one between Ronaldo and players like Suarez, Lewa, Harry Kane, etc.

Messi is a natural. Doesn't fall and carry on like the modern dudes. He is flat out everywhere. You have to actually tackle him to get the ball off him unlike Ronaldo who will fall over if a fly brushes him.

The Messi-Ronaldo debate ended years ago for me. Messi is hands down the best player of the last 30 years.

Would have been great to see Maradona play in the current era with the protection players get, the better pitches, improved ball technology and hopefully people around him to keep him focused on the game.

I read an interesting stat the other day, not sure if it’s true but never let the truth get in the way of a good story….the most fouled player in World Cup history was Maradona with 53 against him at the 86 tournament. The second most, was Maradona with 50 in 1990. The third, yes you guessed it, was Maradona who was fouled 36 times at the 1982 World Cup.

Messi, Maradona and Pete. The best three players of all time.

This is a bit of a nothing game isn’t it.

Both teams look like they are having a training session.

Muted celebrations, second string players. Why are we doing this?

Tell them both they finished 3rd.
Do they even give anything out? A bronze medal of sorts?

It’s always been a damp squib of a game. $2m difference in prize money between 3rd and 4th. I agree with you, sod the game off and split the money evenly between the two teams.
