Ezra Mam accepts nine-game ban, $120000 in fines

For Mitchell Pearce and his new years stuff got a 8 week suspension and a $125k fine

Mam has no drivers license, on drugs, wrong side of the road, crashed his car and harmed a child and only gets 9 weeks and $120k

Seems like some people get off and some don’t I wonder what the difference is between the two.

I think it’s been well recognised over the years that the Pearce suspension was totally OTT as well.

Like Carney, that punishment is a relic of the “all we care about is whether it embarrasses the game” era, where a player could punch a woman in the face on Wednesday and still play the game on Saturday no problem even with a criminal charge hanging over their head, just as long as there was no footage of it & due to the gross cone of silence around violence towards women which to me seems like it was way more of a thing as recently as 10 years ago.

But do something really cringe but which ultimately hurts no one in any serious way, like **** yourself on someone’s couch after getting drunk & carrying on like a pork chop, well, the book would be thrown at them, because there’d be footage or pictures of it on the news, and so I guess that makes it worse?

It’s basically not worth comparing the Pearce thing to decisions made by the current judiciary because the priorities were different & in my opinion wrong. Pearce wouldn’t be given the same punishment now. The no fault stand down didn’t exist so he may very well have been out of the game for less time if he raped that woman instead of making an off colour joke with her dog and pissing on her couch.
