King is fine for that job on min wage. You can't aim too high when you're paying Klem, Dan and Frizz.

Last two weeks he's played ~30 minutes, making ~90 metres, ~20 tackles (0) missed.
Stats aside he's hitting hard in defence and the line hard with the ball too, he ran over Tino last week.

agree, King fills that spot great. his defence is great.
Starting to play a Glasby type role.

Mostly happy with King except for that one howler of a defensive read against the Tigers a couple of weeks ago hahaha. But yeah cheap middles who can do a job are always handy. Has clearly worked hard in the gym, look at footage of him from four years ago and he looks like he’s added 15kg of muscle since then.

I don’t think he would be in our best 17 if everyone was fit. Could be wrong.
I think he would, as we’d have 8. Klem, 10. DSaf, 13. Sue, 14. Watson, 15. JSaf, 16. King, 17. Fitz. He makes it though given our lack of depth, but if we picked up another decent quality prop then I think King is the one that makes room.

We have some great young middle forwards coming through.
I didn’t think we’d win a game in reserves this year with only Zac Hosking as an older forward, but we’ve won our last 2 in a row with kids like Matt Croker, Jaron Purcell and Garrett Smith going from strength to strength.
In the game against Wests it was almost surreal to see Russell Packer getting dominated by Matt Croker. Admittedly Packer would have been not going full pace in reserves but the second or third time that Croker pushed him backwards, you could see he wasn’t happy. Looked a bit bewildered in fact.

Croker definitely looks like one for the future. Any word on why he missed out on the development this year?
I asked Barry Toohey on Twitter a week or two ago and he said this:

“The thought was he wasn’t going to progress enough so others were given an opportunity ahead of him. Fair to say he is going better than Garrett Smith is at the moment.”

In saying that, I hope Crokes is given a crack in 2022.

My theory is that our second tier squad got put through a near first grade pre season this year. Andrew Ryan, Mark O’Meley etc had guys like Croker, Johns, Hosking, Purcell, Randall, Huth, lucas and pretty much everyone who would have played Flagg this year, so they had a big, solid squad to work with.
I think they just decided to give spots in the top squad to a heap of guys like Kiraz Smith, Young, Hodgson, Maamania etc because they hadn’t done a full preseason. Results show that Ryan and O’Meley have got their squad into as good shape as the guys who did first grade.

He has to, but maybe I’m biased because of work on the podcast haha

Garrett Smith had his best game yet this week. His numbers were very similar to Croker and Hosking. Training all week with first grade must have got him pumped for a big one.

Hopefully continues his good form and a debut against his old club in May would be a good chance.

Levi has been given a contract with Brisbane for the rest of the year.
He scored 3 tries and averaged 57 fantasy points in 4 games for Norths Devils.
