Evarn Tuimavave set to be dumped from Newcastle Knights' first-grade squad

I think some of you guys are kidding yourselves with the Willie Mason hate.

I'd be more than happy to get big Willie on board!

Every club has at least two or three players like Tui where as Mason at his best is a dominant game breaker IMO. Whether he can return to his best form which he wasn't far off at the Cowboys just over a year ago remains to be seen!

Remember Tahu has come from not too dissimilar circumstances and most people here think he'll be good for us..

more than a bit surprised that Tui is on the perhaps on the outer...however...if it is so and Benny does not want him and that is of course a very big IF then I wonder if Bennys' presence might be enough to entice Dave Taylor to our not so humble club for next year and beyond...
I hope Tui is retained in the top grade as we need his experience and grunt for this season at least...

If he bothered playing out the season with us. Has he ever finished a contract? How long did he last in Superleague before it all got a bit too hard?

I'm not too concerned about his super league that was a case of his team having too many imports when a player came back from injury. He finished his Cowboys contract (admittedly only 1 year) and played well.

The big question is has he ever played under Wayne Bennett?

He has, for the Kangaroos in 2004. He got a bad injury playing for them in that exhibition game against the USA and missed most of 2005.

I meant a season I imagined he probably played under him for Aus!

I stand by opinion that Every team has at least 2 or 3 Tui type players.
So I think Mason would add a bit more of a game breaking style of play and IMO that is much more exciting to watch.

Having said that I'd be happy if we kept Tui

We have a Fa'as and a Snowden, they i think will be our game breakers this yeah.

Look at our off season, all positive and upbeat, but some members weren't happy at Gidleys pressure from comments about a must have top 4 finish

Can you imagine the comments if Mason was here? In my opinion he is in image more than a player and that image is a big fat mouth (like idris is an icon cos of his hair!)

I like our pack, am surprised at the Tui drop but if that means young Tets or Sims get a go im all for it

An image wtf??

Clive Churchill medalist, over 20 games for Australia and man of the match for Nsw origin that by far more than an image!
Fa aoso could only hope to be that successful on the field in his career as Mason has been!

I'd rather people have there opinion not from stuff they've read in the media which a lot of it is hyped up but make an opinion from on field performance and runs on the board!

If Willie was younger then I would think it would be a smart move to get him in our squad under Wayne. I don't see any point to adding him to this squad at this present time, we have more then enough quality forwards that will do the job for next season. Like I said if he was younger it would be worth offering him a base contract, but we have plenty of talent coming through the ranks.

As for his season with NQ, it was not that entertaining and exciting to watch, it was a good comeback season for him but that is it. As far a Richie being less entertaining than Willie, you may have a point if you mean the 2004 model Willie

Richie is very exciting I've never said he wasn't I just said hasn't been as successful (so far) as Willie!

Anyway if we do get him I hope he proves all the doubters wrong ;-)
but as I said I'm happy to stick with Tui I haven't bagged him I would just rather watch Mason play if in form!

Mason has been average since 05 and a plodder after joining the Roosters. Admittedly, he was a beast in his prime, but those days are long gone.

Fa'aoso is a much more damaging runner than Mason nowadays. Heck, most forwards are ...

At age 32, I can't see Bennett bringing him back to form. The only reason why he's not that good anymore, is because his runs are soft, compared to how he ran with the ball in his prime. That could be to do with his knee surgery, not sure.

He was okay at the Cowboys, but no better than what we've got. He hasn't made a rep side since what, 07?

It's my own thoughts, not the media's, but he's past his prime.

I thinlk he was very solid for the Cowboys and i know a few Cowboy supporters that rated him that year.

He made the initial squad for Aus at the end of 2008 but done his ACL so missed out.

I don't think 32 for a forward is too old but thats just my opinion.

I think he is capable but we may never know ; )

Saying that he was only "okay" for Cowboys is an understatement. The guy was solid for them and put in a lot of effort both on and off the pitch.

Whilst I strongly agree that he is past his prime I think we would be foolish to not strongly consider it, particularly if we can get him on decent coin.

As for people saying we already have Fa'aoso so why bother with Mason ? Firstly I'd like to point out that Fa'aoso is a prop and Mason is a second rower, secondly if Mason was able to get even close to his peak than I'd back him to be far more damaging than Fa'aoso.

That's your opinion. It's my opinion that his season for North Queensland, who won five out of 24 matches, and for whom he couldn't crack the starting side for 10 out of 24 matches, was nothing spectacular.

Below is something I found on the Internet from a Cowboy supporters perspective on Willie! I know I won't change anyone with strong anti Mason opinions but here's food for thought ;-)

Now this season for the Cowboys has been anything but good. However, a shining light has been the form of Mason. He has been a standout in a lacklustre Cowboys side this year, and always one of the top performers each game. Throughout this season he has averaged over 13 runs and 116 metres per game.
Furthermore, there’s stuff many fans do not see during the game, like always being the first person to congratulate a team member for pulling off a good play, or also encouraging a fellow teammate to keep his head up after making a mistake.
You can see in his eyes that he wants to win every game, week in week out, and these are the type of players you want in your team.

He may have been good in his prime and even for the cowboys, but I'd hate for him to play in the red n blue, we are building for the future, it's like a fresh start this year with all the new stuff happening, why bring in some dead wood to ruin our reputation,
