Dylan Brown discussion

Yeah can’t say I’ve even see Brown as animated as he’s been here this year

For all the concern of him being a 7, he’s actually just going about everything quite easily or at least he’s making it look pretty effortless.

He sort of just floats around the ground but looks dangerous every time he runs because of how skilful he is. He digs so far into the line he’s just able to create so much space around him.

He’s the type of player KP’s always needed alongside him and I’m finally got someone, POS who realised this. Would’ve thought Origin showed it but apparently not. Recruitment here just thought he could do it on his own.

After listening to the POS interview, just wanted to get people’s thoughts on how DB has been going so far with the Knights. A mid season report card so to speak.

POS mentions about him being in a Flegg side that won the comp and he was playing 7. Mentioned how he plays straight and the best defensive half he’s seen play the game.

So we all have at position 5 in our MSKOTW
at this stage. I think he has missed 5 or so games.

I give him a B+ at this stage. Has he lit up, no, but he’s consistently among our best every week. The amount of one on one tackles he’s made to cut down plays and saves tries has been outstanding.

He has had his moments of brilliance also, setup tries and scoring a couple himself. His he as good as KP, no, but he’s a different player.

The question remains, is he worth the price tag? IMO yes. I was slightly worried watching play out his final year with Parra. But the performance at the PAC champs got me excited. He hasn’t reached that level yet, but if we keep building the team and form combinations I can see him going another level.

He’s not at Cleary or Muster or KP level, but the value he brings to the Knights was exactly what needed to take this team to another level.

Yeah it's relative, I wouldn't say in today's cap he is worth 1.3 million if everything was on an even scale. That's a game changer money, your best player every game type money.

But he is a high level player that is valuable to any team and that's what it cost for Newcastle to pinch that type of a talent, who has no prior connection to the club and has stated multiple times he loved Parramatta and didn't think he would leave, so it works for us.

And given the length of the contract and the strong possibility that the cap keeps going up, the deal just gets better and better over time. Without any significant drop in his value as he gets older, he should be a bargain by the end of it.

A half that can hold their own in defence is gold, and in Brown and Sharpe we have 2 of them.

A lot of teams have to find a way to cover for a weak defender or 2 in the halves, and at full strength, we don't have to do that.

I think both Brown and Sharpe are years off peaking as playmakers. They are OK, but having a great playmaker at fullback is still pretty important for us.

In short, great defender, work in progress in attack.

As @HarVeeGee13 said the other day, we are now scoring tries with ease. Brown is a massive part of that. Coupled with being easily the best defensive half in the comp and without giving him a rating as an individual, I believe he is the ideal half for us and worth every cent.
The amount of time and space his outside men get speaks for itself. He doesn’t chase the big plays for himself, he chases good opportunities for the team. And yeah he defends his *** off.

Summed it perfectly.

Don’t care about his price, his defence is outstanding and the attack speaks for itself because he’s a big part of that.

POS is right he plays extremely straight, creates space for those around him. He’s a team player and he gets the best out of KP and allows Sharpe to do his thing as well.

At end of the day, if he doesn’t sign we probably lose KP and you’ve got no chance of winning a comp without multiple gun spine players. Wish we signed him years ago

POS also says we are in a premiership window. He just said you get the feel. The boys are hungry. Having a DB in the squad just brings that extra confidence.
