Dom Young discussion

I think his defensive chase downs are probably his quickest efforts - he has absolutely mown down some attacking raids after giving significant starts to some quick players....but I'm not sure if they 'track' them when they don't have the ball in hand?

Everyone is tracked at all times due to those GPS things they wear in the shirts.

It stings but if it's true that the Roosters offered substantially more he would've been dumb to turn it down. I can't really hold that against him personally. Felt differently about Watson taking off for less money and less years.

That said I would send him to the Cessnock Goannas for the year.

Parra didn't drop Mahoney, Penrith didn't drop Kikau. Played them as they were best in position and made GF because of it. We just need to suck it up and hope he has a huge year for us. I'd be happy for him to score 30+ tries to help us make the finals. Knights have a whole season/offseason to come up with a replacement.

Dom doesn't strike me as a guy who will let up because he is signed elsewhere.
Watson went from the best form of his life to the worst form of his life in the time it took to sign a Roosters contract, but Dom is a kid who is trying to get better and better, and I think he'll just keep doing his best by us.
If he has a great year for us he deserves the same sort of recognition as Brian Carney as a great player we didn't have for long enough.

The one shinning light from last season just walked out the door, that's a bitter, bitter pill to swallow no matter how you look at it. Take some money off the saf shielas that phoned it in all last year..

I really don’t see any point in him staying this year - we’re rebuilding and unlikely to make the finals, better to give the spot to someone who will be there in 2024. Of course I doubt the Knights will consider anything like long term planning.

We could also swap him with a club that isn’t the Roosters and at least get something in return. Someone out there would be after a winger for a year, because of a 2024 signing or a player that isn’t quite ready yet, or something. Or they have a genuine shot at the title and want the best team they can name.

The NRL will always be a laughing stock with their BS salary cap .... TPAs aren't included so it's never a level playing field, just look at that roosters backline.

Anyway we should ship him off now or drop him for someone that wants to be here, we ain't making no finals this year so let's prep for 24.

Also genuine question, why can't we request a transfer fee from roosters to take him this year like English clubs do?

We have to play him if we are any chance of improving this year, and as has been said before other teams continue to pick players that are leaving regardless. The Storm, Parra, Penrith and Souths have all played star players that have figured in finals footy the year they were leaving. I think it's just a fact of life and we have to suck it up. It's just bitterly disappointing that he is only going to get better, just not in Newcastle. Maybe we should be looking at the contract situation for these emerging players and make sure they are tied into our system for longer.

Souths. They’re already so good despite getting absolutely nada out of their back three on kick returns and without any attacking threat from their right winger.

Would really stick it up the Chooks’ nose hahaha.

They’re one of the few clubs with a surplus of good forwards too.

I wonder if we’ll have the wherewithal to do that. Ok our replacements won’t be at Dom’s level, but we are pretty well stocked for outside backs if he goes.

So if what I’ve heard on here is true. Roosters have offered Dom a 500k deal for however many years. We did not match that. Who know’s what we offered? Knights should have been at least in position to match that, then he probably would have stayed. So I don’t blame him for leaving.

What I am pissed about is the poor roster management that put us in this situation. Don’t get me wrong Ponga is a good player but what club besides the Dolphins are paying a guy 1.4mil a season. Realistically Ponga shouldn’t be on no more than 900K.

It’s super worrying signs on where the club is at at the moment. It’s also ****ed up on whether we keep playing Dom or have a massive drop in talent on the wing.

Other thing that ****s me is Rooters have already a backline of stars and they had another one! How the **** does that work! That’s a club that obviously has good roster management.

It's not going to happen. Firstly the player has to agree with the move and I doubt Dom will agree to go play for another club for 1 season, then move to the Roosters.

I don't think the decision is based on not liking Newcastle, it will be based on money and the opportunities the Roosters can provide.

Good luck to him, if anybody wants to look somewhere to blame, you should be looking at the Knights club who have been a shambles for years and this is the result of that. We aren't contenders for anything but the spoon, might not even play finals.

If this was a good young player, with Wests Tigers and the Roosters made a good offer what would you advise them is best for their career!

I would be very dissapointed with the club if they did not match the offer if he signs with roosters for $500,000.

If he is on $120,000 this year and he gets $500,000 the next 3 years at the roosters that is $1.62 million.

We could have upgraded him this year so he earns $1.62 million over the next 4 years which is only $405,000 a season which is cheap.

Not sure of exact figures offered but like i said in another post we should have had the advantage ruling out any dodgy deals of course.

I still think its a bit of a dog act from dom but obviously it depends on what was been offered. Loyalty only goes so far.
