Dane Gagai Re-Signs with Knights until 2017

I don't see why its an issue. Gagai is a grown man who makes his own decisions. I don't see how a phone call from DCE could influence his decision. Its not like he can offer him more money or anything.

I've never seen Gagai more excited in an interview than him getting to play against Josh Hoffman so getting to play alongside him and being close to home, I think that's a good drawcard alone even with DCE in his ear.

And Hoffman got moved back to fullback  he was so excited to mark him at centre

You're kidding me right? You can't sit here and tell the Manly fans your focus is on them for the rest of the year while you're trying to recruit players for your new club.

You'd be rightly sacked and possibly have legal action taken against you in any other industry!

Heard rumours mamo in talks with eels, I would also like to see gagai at fullback

Jeez if he wants to play NRL than he'd have more of a chance here than the Eels I reckon. Radradra, Robinson, Toutai, Folau, Morgan and Champion. With just Uate, McManus and Sione, who'd most likely play fullback anyway. Otherwise it's just he and Chanel fighting it out if someone were to get injured/play rep football. He has the x-factor and try scoring ability and Chanel has the power and finishing capabilities.

I wouldn't call it "recruiting". It's like if I was talking with a friend and said "Oh you're looking for a new place to work? Come work with me then". Even though I have no say on my friend's salary etc. It would be more concerning if he was calling other people as well though...

Which is what Gidley revealed is the case. The issue isn't two mates in DCE and Gagai discussing it...it's the reveal that there's been an approach to more of our off contract players (none of which I think are mates with DCE - other than Gagai).

If he is talking to Gold Coast boys to get them to go back to Gold Coast I don't think it's that bad.
The only two I can think of are Pakau and Togiatasi, and I don't think we'd miss them a lot.

I can't see it been a promblem with this our players have a choice and if they take up the offer it would be because Newcastle are not giving them or can't give them what they need at that time in there life.

Not much strength or defence though.

I don't think Mamo would go to the Titans if he wants to play fullback. They already have Hoffman who is desperate to play there.

Gagai, 24, is the most highly sought outside back on the open market with St George Illawarra the latest club to enter the race with Newcastle, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

On Monday the Dragons secured one piece of their centre puzzle signing young gun Euan Aitken until 2017 and with former Knights recruitment guru Peter Mulholland now at the club they’ve emerged as a genuine option for Gagai.

So the Dragons wants to sign Dane as well.
Maybe a straight swap for Pete to play fullback next season?

I hope we don't go down that path, I like Pete but he's a downgrade on what we currently have & I feel the only reason we'd be signing him would be for the novelty & sentimentality of having the 4 brothers playing together. We've moved on, we should concentrate on what we already have.

Manly are after him as well according to RLW. Highly doubt he'd go there or the Dragons unless they offered him an absolute fortune. He wants to go back to Qld so he'll be at the Broncos or Titans or a lesser chance remain here. Very much doubt he'll be in Sydney though unless he's offrered something stupid like 700k+

There really, really needs to be a player transfer system, though. Otherwise players will end up changing clubs at the end of every contract because there's always half of all clubs with cash money to through at decent players they don't have. There should be compensation which amounts to something like one year of the players contract, so Gagai would be 500k comp + whatever the club wanted to throw on top to ward of rivals. Of course the problem there is rich clubs will always have the money and poor clubs won't, However, there's no harm in the NRL giving transfer funding assistance to the poorer clubs to level it up a bit. All the while a major benefit of this system is a transfer of wealth through the entire NRL code, and it is also a system where clubs like Canberra can be rewarded for their junior system

Don't know why we resigned the Mata'utia brothers
Gagai should of been number 1 priority he's our best back hands down

I don't think Gagai's decision is primarily money based. He wants to go back to Qld close to his family. The club are pulling out all the stops to keep him but even then our chances are slim. We'd be stupid to put everything into re-signing Gagai, lose the brothers only for Gagai to leave anyway.
