Current forward pack next year

On the Raiders, I think their positioning on the ladder at the moment says more about the poor quality of the comp this year than them however they’ve picked a good year to not be terrible as can’t see standout sides so we might see a Bradbury GF winner.

I think we might see the NRL equivalent of the 2016 Leicester City EPL side winning the comp this year.
 
I was happy to see the progress young forwards have made in the two games yesterday.

Most happy to see Manuleleua throw himself into defensive work for the full 80 minutes. He still missed a few tackles at important times, but he was moving well and diving to make tackles around the legs and making 2 or 3 tackles per set on the right side.

Crouch put in another strong spell in the middle and worked hard.

We missed Hopwood.

We missed McEwen

In Flegg, props Hilliar and Bates came on in the second half and just carried the team on their broad shoulders and overcame a 14 point deficit to take us to a 10 point win with 24 unanswered points from when they came off the bench.

Bates and Hilliar are awesome, but thought Beau Hill and Riley Wells stiffened the game up and clawed the game back, Hilliar and Bates second stints dominated and brought it home.

Very encouraging signs.

How do you think McEwen would go if he were thrown into the middle this year?

He did a really good spell at prop for NSW under 19s a few years ago.
I thought he was best on field in that game, with 1 spell at second row and an even better one at prop.
A lot of very good props are the same size as McEwen, and he has the aggression and competitive drive for it.
Moody and McEwen are both 106kg, Moody is 3cm taller.
I think they'd go as hard as each other in 20 or 30 minute spells as props.

Not underrating McEwen at all, I think he’s excellent and the hardest runner we have at the club that’s why I was wondering how that might transfer to playing in the middle, given how lacking we are there at the moment

I can’t believe there were people who wanted him back in reserves at the start of the year.

True and I think Francis would be a better fit out of the two in terms of converting to middles, his fast feet near the line and leg drive mixed in with the fight in tackles he shows in cup.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Manu at prop reminds me of a young Frizell
 
I think McEwen definitely looked a bit raw and inexperienced at times last year, granted it was his first season whilst playing in a much worse team. He’s definitely come into his own as our starting second-row forward and looks to be improving and growing in confidence as the weeks go on. Keen to see him return.
