Cooper Vuna signs with Melbourne Rebels

Will be very sad to see him go, he has been great all year for us. He loves newcastle and brings the crowd into the game. Hopefully after his contact in Union he wants to come back here and we snap him up

I really hope he does go down the route so many others have and come back to league after playing Union. Not to mention I'm fairly certain he wont be picked for any level of Rep Union regardless of how well he goes as I believe the All Blacks only pick players that are at NZ clubs.

I think he may well have stayed or at least the club would have made a bigger play for him if we didn't have 2 other first grade wingers in Aku and McManus (who it always appeared would be put back in as soon as he overcame injury)

His ambition is to play for the Wallabies in the 2011 WC, beats me why, he only came to Australia to play for the Knights Mid-way thru 07.

That is fairly ridiculous.

Thats far worse than Uate's ambition to play for NSW especially with the Wallabies and All Blacks being such big rivals.

As you say at that stage he will only have been in Australia for 4 years. Apparantly being born and raised in NZ doesn't mean as much to him as I thought it would

Sucks to see him go, wish he would stay our backline was unstoppable last night, everyones stepping up majorly. Atleast he's in the record books now :D

I was really disappointed when he signed with union.
Last night showed why.

Maybe we can hope for another Darren Albert 1997 situation (not the Grand Final ... although that'd be pretty sweet!!!). For the younger ones here, Alby had signed to join SuperLeague's Hunter Mariners for 1998 sometime in early 1997 (possibly pre-season, I'm not sure). The longer the season went on, the more he didn't want to leave the Knights. History shows he'd managed to get out of having to go (again, I'm not sure, but I think he'd negotiated his way out of his Mariners contract before they went bust due to the ARL-SuperLeague peace deal).

I'd love to see Cooper Vuna playing for us next season. I can't really see James McManus having the same effect as Vuna on the wing.

Him and Uate have to be the most damaging wing pairing in the competition. They are carving up, but like Nuke said about Darren Albert not wanting to leave, maybe Coops can exit the deal or we could swap Mcmanus?

You can tell that he does not want to leave at all. I'm so sad to see him go...

Swap McManus  JG would be fuming.

Hard to have 3 wingers in the side, its sad to see Vuna leave. Him and Uate get the crowd involved and thats why they keep coming back to watch the game.

Not to mentioned that'd be cruel to Jimmy. He is a great clubman too, and has been here longer then Vuna.

It would be cruel if it did happen but Vuna is clearly a better player, and is more involved with the crowd and supporters. Vuna is a far better clubman.

The chance of a swap happening, would probably be a 0% chance of happening anyway but would be ideal if it happened.

You don't just swap players though Newyfan. It would be pretty slack to do that to McManus. He is a good clubman just like Vuna.

I'm just praying Vuna gets a get out clause and stays with us!

Won't happen though......

What a joke, swap McManus? Apparently McManus is so bad that he has never been picked for city country, and has never been picked for SOO, oh wait!

McManus is just as good a player, you're just basing it on this year, think back to last year and you will realise how good McManus is.

mac is more consistent

Vuna plays with more skill and passion.

Both are adequate defenders.

I wudav preferred to keep vuna however, he always brings his A game and has complete disregard for his body when kick returning.

There are some very short memories here.
Jimmy didn't have a problem handling anyone and that included The Beast.
He is also a great finisher and defender. Defence is something Cooper Vuna is not so hot at.
He leaves his wing bare when he rushes in to tackle in field when he is not really needed and before he knows what's going on the opposition has scored in his corner.
Very rarely did Jimmy get caught like that.
Then to top things off, he was selected for the Blues and that was the start of his problems with the injured foot.
I just hope that a good pre season will have him ready for 2011.

As i said in another thread Jimmy will be back to his best after a good pre-season. He needs injury recovery time. But at this point in time Cooper offers so much more to the team.
