Connor Watson signs with the Roosters

If his head back to the Roosters on $650k plus which is my gut feeling as we would have offered around $500k, glad that we didn't compete with the big $. Hopefully Johns or Sasagi can grow into his role.

Sad to seem him go but can't keep them all.

People need to remember Mann would be on half of Watson's money(even though that's still expensive lol.)
We offered around $350k and 3-year deal according to Toohey. Roosters offered less money and 2-year deal. They're a well-run, successful club so not surprised it's still an attractive offer despite the lower $$.

That means he doesn't believe in the coaching or clubs future...

Even worse if you ask me

Not gonna blame the club if he’s going for less than what we offered and for a shorter period. He obviously would prefer to be there no point breaking the bank for him.

Would have been nice off him to repay the club when we stood by him with all his injuries. Anyway glad it's over

Good on him for mine.

We are a chance to be threatening for a premiership in the next few years if we get our act together and put in a good season and have luck with injuries, but he probably thinks his chances are better there.

I can't blame him for that.

How our brains trust sees Kurt Mann as the player to make sure they secure over Watson is beyond me.

Everyone banging on how we signed Mann before Watson, it's actually a smart move. Kurt can cover alot of positions and would be on fark all and has been less injury prone.

I understand he has mistakes in him but I must admit he has been pretty good in the centres lately.

As someone else posted we offered more money than the roosters and a longer deal, Watson obviously wanted to head "home" to the salary sombrero. Haha

The one good thing about him going to the Chooks over another team is Watson might have tried to get Kalyn to follow him, the Roosters don't need him, they have very good players already through their spine.

It's also reflective of where both players are currently at. Mann has a family in the area and might not have wanted to test the market much (if at all). Connor doesn't have a partner or kids (as far as I'm aware), so he isn't tied to anywhere in particular. He also called around testing the market himself, which he's entitled to do. It's no surprise that Mann's deal was finalised before Connor made a decision either way. If anything, it's probably better for us signing Mann first, because he might up his price now that Connor has signed elsewhere haha.

Roosters 2023 Spine
1. Tedesco - 6. Ponga - 7. Keary - 9. Verrills
13. Watson - Suspended. Radley

In all seriousness, while he’s obviously a fan favorite, he’s too small to defend at lock, and no point paying too much to keep a utility happy. Him leaving is ultimately the better outcome for the club.

If, as suggested by many above, he signed for less money and less seasons then something rather than $$$ mattered.
If it’s more chance of winning a premiership then I think he is likely kidding himself, for chooks to win, beating Storm, Panthers, Manly and South’s based on current squads they will require a fully fit and strong side which means Watson unlikely to make 17, 14 is at long odds.

Watson makes the Roosters 17.. off the bench though, maybe he can fill in at 13 if Radley is suspended.
