Confirmed: Knights sign Mason for 2012 season

Next year when the going gets hard pre season the thought that someone who hasn't done the hard yards can get a run before you might just cause the throttle to be released a little.

I just wish the "we recruit imbeciles" policy was in place when Carney was looking to be signed.

Exactly, I'm spewing about Carney.

According to FoxSports... Mason has no fitness test and has not spoken to Bennett in two years according to his manager. (who might just be trying to not have this deal killed off too)

Well let me see, he has ****ed up off the field at every club he's been at and does nothing on the field except stand around and look intimidating.

Even if it's only a 40k contract, we're a team trying to change our image after idiots in the past have tarnished it.

YOU DONE SOMETHING STUPID IN THE LAST 5 YRS?

The guy is 32

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone ;)

I think people's patience has run out with Mason.

Everyone does stupid things, but only stupid people do them repeatedly.

I've done something stupid in the last 5 minutes but I'm not getting paid a coupla hundred thousand per year to represent a Club, it's supporters, the area the Club represents and indeed the Sponsors.

I think one final chance is ok, he could play amazing being back home!!

Mason was One of my all time favourites and I got to see him play a lot for the doggies. 40k is nothing really I just don't think he's the big menacing hard working forward we all want. He was always a line and edge runner rather then a workhorse or battering ram. I'm all for it tho. I would of been a lot happier with ray cashmere however but oh well

Have I missed something?
What has Mason done wrong other then **** in public once and speak his mind, I can't recall any other off field incidents.

  • In 2002, Mason is reported to have run from a taxi to avoid paying the fare.[SUP][33][/SUP][SUP][34][/SUP]
  • In 2003, he tested positive to an illicit social drug, reported to be an amphetamine, and was fined $25,000 by his club. Mason has never commented on the issue publicly.[SUP][35][/SUP]
  • In 2004, Mason along with Trent Waterhouse, Craig Wing, Craig Gower and Mark O'Meley, were fined for unprofessional behaviour and for leaving the team hotel after the side had returned from the night out.[SUP][36][/SUP] Mason forged another player's signature at an autograph event, and after a heavy drinking session with team mates, reportedly visited a brothel.[SUP][37][/SUP][SUP][38][/SUP][SUP][39][/SUP]

  • At Sydney Airport in 2007, Mason verbally challenged a female reporter from radio station 2GB, resulting in a complaint from 2GB to the Bulldogs club and the ARL[SUP][40][/SUP][SUP][41][/SUP] Mason later admitted to the outburst, which was captured on audio recordings, and apologised to 2GB journalist Michelle Keighran.[SUP][42][/SUP] Mason is sponsored by sportswear manufacturer, Champion, which almost severed its contract with the controversial footballer as a result of the incident.[SUP][43][/SUP]

  • Also in 2007, Mason was involved in a nightclub altercation with the out-spoken Richie Williams, who Mason claimed shows no respect to the older players in the NRL and is a cocky kid who has yet to prove himself in the NRL.[SUP][44][/SUP] Mason was voted the most hated player by a fans poll in 2007.[SUP][45][/SUP]

  • In February 2008 Mason and his new Roosters team-mate Anthony Tupou were charged with urinating in a public place during a visit to Port Macquarie.[SUP][46][/SUP]
  • In May 2009 Mason was fined $2000 by Sydney Roosters after being photographed urinating in a public place.[SUP][47][/SUP]

I know a few Roosters fans who weren't really happy with the way Mason was hanging out with the younger guys like Friend, Sandor Earl if he was there etc. Notice how Friend has kept his nose clean since then? ;)
Then Mason goes to the Cowboys and spends time with Watts for a year, who then becomes mates with Carney at the Roosters, and the rest is history ;)

I fear for our young guys if he is here, media would probably cover it up if something happened, but just because you have the space to spend, doesn't mean you should.

Well thats just a cop out and a petty excuse.

Yet Mason hasn't done anything to tarnish the Knights name. Its interesting how when it comes to other players who have bad or checkered pasts, especially woman bashers, people on here are all it's ok Bennett will get him straight, but somehow Mason, who is nothing more then opinionated is somehow unable to be "saved" by Bennett.

You lot cant have it both ways.

Except Tahu had wanted to rejoin us ever since he left union.

Not a fan of Mason, he's past it and I'd rather he wasn't at the club. Oh well, if he's in red and blue, I'll cheer him on.

Many a people were saying the same of Buderus as well.

It must be me who is missing something. The above wrap sheet says he's a bit more than opinionated. 2007,8,9 to bring up the hat trick before he went to the UK.

So Mason is responsible for every NRL player getting into strife, also didn't he leave the Roosters before Carney arrived?

Being in newcastle would make it harder for him to get on the drink and muck up though, if he did get p@##ed and played up everyone would know about it!!
people make mistakes in there life, most the things he has done he wouldnt have gotten him in to much trouble except for the fact he plays professional footy!!
They are human after all, they make mistakes

He is over the hill and a pest. He will be watched like a hawk here from the media and as soon as anyone does something wrong it will be blown out bigger than what it is. He is obviously a **** magnet.

Most of us hated Tahu a year ago & were sickened by the idea of him coming here, but now we all love Tahu. I'm sure Mason will be the same with us in 6 months time.

And for the record, he has cleaned up his act. Left North Queensland to retire in the Super League, got released from Hull KR because he couldn't get a Tongan passport & fit into their overseas quota amount of players & got released from Toulon because he wasn't even getting gametime & Toulon were happy to let him go. So in the last 2 years i don't see anything that he has '****ed up' off-field. Apart from Twitter ofcourse, he actually seems like a good bloke on Twitter, but he is prone to reacting to ****heads that antagonize him. Just needs to ignore them.

Watching him at the Cowboys aswell, he still had it, dunno about now, but he has definitely gone out of his way to keep fit.
