Confirmed: Knights sign Boyd for four years

The Coal & Allied Newcastle Knights today confirmed the signing of St George Illawarra fullback Darius Boyd from the 2012 NRL season.


The new agreement with the Knights will once again link the two time premiership winner and Clive Churchill Medallist to play under Coach Wayne Bennett for the next four years.


Hunter Sports Group CEO Troy Palmer is confident the signing of Boyd will give the entire club as well as members and fans a great lift.


"The signing of a current international and premiership winning player clearly highlights the enthusiasm of NRL players wanting to join the club and be part of our exciting future.


"It is very important that we don't get in front of ourselves and continue to concentrate on our current job of a top 8 semi-final position this year.


"The job that Rick Stone and the playing group have been doing each week has given fans the feeling that even better things are to come this year and that they are continuing to lay down a great platform for the future." He concluded.


The signing of Boyd, together with the return of fellow internationals Kade Snowden and Timana Tahu, the recent resigning of Captain Kurt Gidley and Kiwi International Junior Sau, the exciting young talent coming through the Newcastle Knights Junior ranks and the on-going resigning of many of the current squad, ensures a bright future for the Newcastle Knights club.

:) This is massive. Even if most of us thought he was coming it's good to know he is definately. Kade Snowden, Wayne Bennett and Darius Boyd, never thought it would happen.

Awesome news!! Besides Wayne Bennett this is probably our best buy ever. If someone told me a year ago that we would sign Wayne Bennett, Kade Snowden and Darius Boyd and be one of the richest clubs in the comp, i would have slapped him. The future looks bright!
 
whilst i dont wish to put a dampener on the situation...all of these signings do make you wonder what is going to happen in 2016 D:
 
When was the last time the knights signed one incumbant international? let alone 2!.

1 Origin player, and 2 internationals in the last two seasons. Knights finally know how to recruit.

I'm guessing with the expected departure of DeGois that maybe Gids is gunna play hooker!
 
Great signing, although i hate him during this time of year! This pretty much puts an end to my wish of Uate going to FB. But, i can't help but think how much has changed in the past 5 months, let alone 12!

Great news . You will all hear news about Anthony Topou being linked to the Knights , don't worry he is not coming here But he is leaving the Sharks .
 
Good signing, real happy. But i honestly would rather have gidley at 7 mullen at 6 boyd at 1. Gidley seems to play better from half atm then 6. He doesn't seem to run the ball sideways as much and at 9 hes going to be making far too many tackles. He would be injured in no time.

Gids is a terrible half. Could be a good hooker.
