Central Coast Centurions 2011 - NSW Cup

On the front row, the commentators wrapped them all at the end of the game, so Taufua & Tete must've been good & solid up front despite barely being called. Sounded as though Likiliki has finally hit some form at Newcastle & Southern was awesome in defence today.

True.
If you went by the commentary you would think Sinbad was our best prop for his 2 or 3 spectacular runs and big hits, but he is an impact guy and i'll bet Mark, Tets and Schillo did all the hard work.

I also have to say i'm not sure those commentators always got the right guy. Tets and Sinbad are almost twins, and Filipo and Mika are pretty similar too, so it wouldn't surprize me if some of the good work they called for Sinbad and Mika wasn't the other two guys.

48-16 win.
Fantastic hit out for most of the team.

Pete - dropped a pass near our line, but apart from that he seemed to be on fire, especially early. 2 tries and some good breaks.
Lulia - some quality touches, but not as involved as he could have been
Likiliki - punishing in attack and defence in the first half especially
Williams - some great runs - scored a try and set up 2
Naiquama - busy in the first half and scored a try by backing up Williams
Briggs - I suspect he was a problem in defence, but his schemeing best in attack
Stig - ran the side like he never did in the juniors - he has learnt a lot in the last few years.
Tets - got mentioned a few times in the first half, but i think the commentators didn't call the hard yards, so props barely got a mention
Marls - hardly got called till the end, when they commented on how good his service was all game. Played 80 minutes and i'll bet he topped the tackle count.
Tuafua - hardly got called, but that doesn't mean much
Mika - fantastic game, did everything from line breaks, off loads and massive tackles
O'Donnell - didn't get much game time, but played hard when he was on. Didn't hear him drop the ball.
Southern - did some good stuff

Sinbad - some huge runs and tackles
Schillo - only heard him called once
Filipo - not on for long - had a few good runs
Fata - only heard him called once.

Did you go mate? Or are you basing that on what you heard on radio? :p

wouldn't it be great if a Newcastle community radio station started doing all the Centurion games.

It wouldn't cost much at all. The commentators are volunteers I think, and the gear needed would not cost too much.

Just what i got from the radio broadcast, but I have also seen all those guys play a few times this year, and most of them many, many times over the years, so i could pretty well picture how they were playing from the broadcast. Being familiar with the guys styles makes a difference, and i saw just about the same side play 2 weeks ago.

Chris Adams is back! :)

Great to see Adams back, but even better to see Malborough kept his starting spot.

Mark promoted to 18th man in firstgrade and Sinbad given a starting spot. I think Sinbad should be a bench impact player and take the place of Faas if he gets injured, but i'm sure he can start too.

Interesting game.
The doggies flew at us for the first 10 minutes, throwing long passes, off loading at will and running all sorts of lines, and after 10 minutes we were 18-0 down and they were playing like the Kangaroos and hadn't made a mistake while chucking the ball around like the Harlem globetrotters.

After that, it became a real armwrestle where we ground away at them to get back to 18-8 at halftime and 18-14 after about 65 minutes (3 tries all). At about the 65 minute mark Briggs went off with what looked like a serious injury, and we pretty much lost the plot again.

Keith Lulia had his best game for a while. He has a great fend, and he used it a lot. His try he got the ball about 10 out and put huge fends on about 4 players one at a time as he went to the line. He also made a 60 metre break with several good fends in it.

Chris Marlborough started the game as hooker but was off after 5 minutes and didn't come back till after halftime. Since Adams didn't play, that left Fata as hooker for a while, and then Pete did a Gidley and played hooker in attack and fullback in defence for about 30 minutes - did a good job too - one of his best games.

Williams scored a good try - pushed through 3 or 4 defenders to score.

Our forwards were outplayed, with only Bluey and Schillo doing a good job all game, but they did hold the doggies out for about 50 minutes of the game in the middle and were good for that period.

Filipo didn't play, which might mean he has been called up to 18th man for FG again, and Adams didn't play. Shaun Boss played in number 20.

Best were Keith, Simon and Pete.

Final 30-14 I think.

Hey Billy, thoughts on KOD and Likliki in the game last week?
KOD looked pretty good and had to do an extra spell on the field after Briggs was injured, which he handled pretty good (although that's when the floodgates opened against us).
Likiliki really didn't do much. He doesn't look fully fit yet.

I thought Jarrod Tua was one of the better players in NYC last week.
Last year he was pretty raw and I remember him playing outside Simon Williams a few games and Simon was really telling him lines to run and in his ear all game, but you could tell last week that his knowledge has improved a lot. He is a big, athletic kid. He could really shine from now on.

It will be interesting to see who gets a run this week if 2 or 3 of the backline are needed for firstgrade.
I suppose Matt Cooper will be one.

It's also interesting that the game tomorrow is at Harker Oval - not sure what that's about.

Team lined up

Naiqama
Lewsley
Likiliki
Fata
Tua
Briggs
Stig
Kali
Karawana
Tets
O'Donnell
Ciraldo
Soutern

Schillings
Boss
Allen
Wilson

We got flogged.
We were ahead and looking pretty good till just before halftime, but after halftime we lost the plot.

Tua had a good game. Should get a another run in NYC i reckon.

Stig had a shocker. Briggs looked to be the best half by a mile.

Likiliki had about 3 great runs of the type we have been hoping to see from him. One where he ran 60 metres before off loading to Ciraldo to score. He showed footwork, speed, great fend, broke a few tackles and finally off loaded. If he could do that a few more times he would be knocking on firstgrades door.

Kev had a pretty good game at fullback too. Very safe at the back and tried to get involved a lot. He made several mistakes by trying too hard i thought in attack, but generally pretty good.

We were outpowered and lacked fitness in the second half. Guys like Ciraldo, Karawana and others looked tired.

44-10 was the final score i think.

On a funny note, Rick Stone was there dressed in an outfit that looked like it came off a fashion catwalk and cost 1000 bucks at least. He was trying to impress his big fat mate he took to the game, who was dressed in an outfit that looked like he would have got change from 20 at Kmart.

It's also interesting that the game tomorrow is at Harker Oval - not sure what that's about.
Don't know if i'm well off the mark, but i wouldn't be surprized if the game was at Harker Oval just so Tinkler could cast an eye over the reggies.

Hooker situation looks critical - only hooker is Simon Allen, who is basically a 5/8 or lock who makes a very ordinary hooker for 20 or 30 minutes.
