Trouble-prone Canberra playmaker Todd Carney and teammate Bronx Goodwin have been stood down indefinitely by the NRL club pending a police investigation.

The pair are assisting ACT police with their inquiries following an incident at a Canberra nightspot in the early hours of Monday morning.

"We are going to stand both Bronx and Todd Carney down," Raiders chief executive Don Furner said on Tuesday.

He would not comment on any possible terms in either player's contract that would see them face further disciplinary action if any misbehaviour was proved.

"It's just the best thing we should do at the moment until they (police) sort that out rather than have that hang over their heads while they're playing or picked," Furner said.

Asked how the trouble affected him, he said: "I just get more grey hair, that's all."

Carney has been in trouble before.

Last year the halfback was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and banned from driving until 2012 after pleading guilty to a string of driving offences on May 18.

He was immediately suspended by the Raiders and only returned to action six weeks later when he turned out for the club's Premier League side in a game against Newcastle.

Neither player was available to comment on Tuesday.

Skipper Alan Tongue admitted the suspensions would disrupt the in-form Raiders.

"As a playing group we're just getting on with the footy," Tongue said.

Wonder whether the Raiders will be firm and not select the players this week despite them pushing for a finals birth.

This would have to be Carneys last chance if its anything serious, its gunna be hard for Canberra as they have sacrificed so much to keep him there long term.

Holy crap thats a long time not to be driving!

i dont know what they are going to do with carney

i met him and i think hes a nice person but i guess when hes on the drink he gets out of control

It's obvious Carney must have some problems off the field, though I think he's a good young player. Canberra would be silly to let him go, and IMO, they should just try and work through it with him.

Carney faces sack from NRL
By Todd Balym and Peter Veness

July 22, 2008 TROUBLED Canberra star Todd Carney faces the sack and de-registration by the NRL with police investigating allegations he urinated on a member of the public.

Carney and teammate Bronx Goodwin have been stood down by the Raiders indefinitely as police investigate three allegations of assault against the two young stars.

Carney is alleged to have urinated on a patron at the All Bar Nun establishment late on Sunday evening while Goodwin is alleged to have assaulted two men outside the club at 11.40pm.

For serial offender Carney it is likely to end his promising rugby league career in Australia as he was already on his last chance with Canberra following two serious driving offences.

Looks like that could be it for him...

Would be a waste of tallent. If he gets into rehab I reckon they'll give him another chance (again).
