Bulldogs throw open ANZ gates

12,973 to be exact. Pretty poor.

NZ WARRIORS 40 BULLDOGS 22

IT was billed as the Polynesian party, where anyone with an Islander passport was invited to watch Sonny Bill Williams tackle the New Zealand Warriors free of charge.

The only problem was that Williams pulled out with a back injury and the Warriors gate-crashed the night in front of the largely-Kiwi crowd of 12,973. It was a different Sonny who opened the scoring, with Warriors centre Sonny Fai crossing to send the visitors to a 4-0 lead.

The Kiwis, Samoans, Tongans and Fijians are all difference races, just like Australians, the British, Americans, Canadians, etc...

The Bulldogs are allowing these people to go in for free, whereas everyone else of Australian, European, Asian etc., descent has to pay. That's discrimination based on race and nationality, and according to several laws, is illegal.

I am of European decent, but I would have got in for free. It is based on nationality, not race.

I just don't see the issue, it brought in a heap of new fans to the game (see how packed the corner was that they were all sitting in?) and hopefully they are back as paying spectators in future. Letting people in who were wearing a Bulldogs jersey is a good idea too, but I reckon more of the people who went under the passport initiative would have been new fans - and thus likely to boost numbers in the future.

Letting people in for free who had a jersey would probably increase merchandising sales, but would have done the Bulldogs out of a larger percentage of ticket sales than the passport thing.

What Watson did can also be considered racist as well to a point, but that is tempered by the facts that it was his money, and more of a spur of the moment thing.

How can that be racist? Letting people in with NZ passports - it was merely the best and quickest way of giving away the free tickets to Warriors supporters. Sure, there may be some Australian Warrior supporters, and there would have been some NZ passport supporters who were cheering for the opposition, but logistically, it was the best idea. If the owner of a team wants to splash out on free tickets for his supporters when they are playing an away semi-final at a big stadium that won't sell out, that is his prerogative. And the increased support worked, because the Warriors made one grand final and one grand final qualifier between 2002 and 2003.

Wonder how many Bulldogs fans boycott the match because of the absurd promotion.

I would have no idea why anyone would do that ... if I had a chance to go to a Knights game and everyone else in the entire stadium got in for free and I had to pay, I wouldn't mind paying. It would be a fickle supporter indeed who would not go because of the promotion. More bothered with creating a big drama in everything than supporting their team.

Really? Missing out on a free ticket means so much to you that you'd give up supporting the whole club? Random.

TRUE. It's like them Dragon Supporters saying they would turn their backs on GAZ. They are just turning their backs on the whole team. Gaz is one player. They should be supporting the team, not just Gaz.
