Brock Lamb set to leave the Knights

Not going to be able to sign a backup half as good as Lamb or as cheap and he has a kicking game, pots goals. With Loughrey, Birch and Hoy coming through and Johns we have a fairly good back up with potential, a season should sort out who will and who won't.
But let's hope we have a season injury free for both Pearce and Watson and Ponga as well.
 
The thing with lamby is his always been the "best" in his age group coming through. He used to make other sides that were decent look very poor. He feels warranted for a firsts spot but doesn't realize he has too earn it. That be it in reggies but still can't get the team to perform so makes him look just as bad. As you've said on the past 88. Halves can't do much without a decent engine.
 
Nothing worse for a player with aspirations to make firsts and playing in a very ordinary reserve grade sign and getting beat, little opera unity to shine.
 
Lamb is a half who has always played a very organised style.
Coaches have always loved him because they make a plan, practice it at training, and Lamb makes it happen during games.
He is the king of the set play and the try assist.
Brown doesn't value that as much as he values running skills and off the cuff play - and he tried to get Lamb to develop those skills - and to Lamb's credit, he did change his game a lot under Brown, but isn't a good enough athlete to pull it off.
In the juniors he was able to sit back and choose his moments to get involved, and he usually made something good happen when he did jump in.
He'll never fit into Brown's game plan, but plenty of coaches don't mind a half who plays like Lamb. Hodko gets plenty of gigs, and he is basically an old and busted version of Lamb who can't kick or tackle anymore.
Lamb should pack his bags and go somewhere where they'll let him play his natural game, even if it's ESL for a few years.
His only hope at Newcastle is if Brown moves on, because Brown doesn't like his style of player.
 
Brown liked Lamb last season when Lamb was playing well he isn't keen on him this season because he hasn't played well at all ...Personally I don't think it has to do with anything else other than Lamb's drop in form this year ...

Well if either has to move on I hope its Lamb because unlike Lamb Brown is doing a good job imo

Brown consistently talked about Lamb having to develop a running game and "take on the line". Lamb responded by trying to do that, and it probably improved his game, but clearly Brown wanted a lot more of a running 5/8, so he bought one.
He used Lamb while he had no one else and no choices, but replaced him as soon as he could with the type of player he clearly wants.
I don't like the style Brown wants to play, but at least he's honest about it, and stands by his convictions.
Lamb isn't the type of player he wants.

Yes he wanted a running player in his halves, but this statement isn't necessarily true. Brown has said many times Lamb is a player they see as part of their long term future & this could be seen when the plan was to have him as the halfback alongside Watson, the running half. Unluckily for him, a certain player by the name of Mitchell Pearce suddenly became available out of nowhere & you don't knock back chances to sign players like that.
 
Half back are picked for attacking, not defence, yes good tackling is a plus but most halfs get run over by big forwards and depend on own big forwards for help.
 
Lamb’s defence was certainly a big issue, one that became an eye popping weakness. It wasn’t that he was getting run over by forwards, it’s that he was constantly getting caught out on the edge (poor recognition and lack of quickness to recover) and we would be left short with the attacking team easily getting outside Lamb and creating an overlap. Teams clearly saw this on film and would target Lamb in the defensive line and run set shapes at him, often having great success. I like Lamb a good bit more than Cogger, however at least Cogger didn’t have that glaring weakness in his game which was being exposed.

Lol to score against the Knights all a club has to do is a quick run around play against our edges and they score.
 
Last season, end off, Lamb was great, this year ridiculed, why? He is still a good player trying to fit a cube into a round hole. Sure not what coach is looking for but still ok, but let's keep giving it to him, we could do worse than keep him, memories are short and he is young

Yes he is still young! I personally would like to see him stay and develop his game under Pearce. However his performances this year have been really poor, regardless of age or experience! Really good players are adaptable and can play more than one set style and/or position, especially being a half you must have more than one string to your bow! I think Brock might have had a few too many hangers on weeing in his ear about how good he was and how great he was going to be! In saying that I still haven't completely ruled a line through him!
