Best Ever Signings

I'd actually put Kalyn at #1 considering we were the worst team ever when we pulled that off. Never harder to sign a good player. And it was something of a punt, no one had spent that much on an unproven teen before (we sort of set a new precedent there).

But those are the only two in the conversation for sure. With BK it's an elite player in his prime who was at a much worse club, and we were in a great cap position at the time due to a bit of a mini squad recycle (a lot of the great players in that team were on their first contract). It's the kind of signing good teams often make.

Our next best ever signing is probably Dane Gagai (the first time).

Completely agree with all this, although I’m happy with both versions of Gags.

Think Frizz has also been a good buy.

Don’t think KP gets enough credit for coming here. Yes the money was very good but the Knights were a basket case coming off 3 wooden spoons. He backed himself unlike a lot of other players who just play it safe and take less for a good team. He was the first to take the plunge when plenty wouldn’t.

My respect for Luai has gone up a lot too for backing himself to be the main guy at the Tigers even though they’ve been a basket case too.

KP and Kennedy are undoubtedly the two best signings the club have ever made.

Tony Butterfield, Frizell and Gagai are probably after that.

Other very good signings over the years include Parsons, McDougall, Fairleigh, Hagan and yes Young also.

You could make an argument that Michael Hagan was our best ever signing.
He came to us in our second year as a 2 time premiership winner, soo player, and went on to be our first rep player, captain, main playmaker, mentor to many of our best players, premiership winning coach etc etc etc.
Right up till the the time of Brown he was working behind the scenes at the club.
He was even our longest serving coach before O'Brien.

Zeb Taia was a great one. Played a handful of first grade games at Parramatta and came here on a cheap contract - was probably in the top five second rowers in the game in 2009, became an international as well.

Sadly Bennett came in, played him at prop and jettisoned him to Superleague (where he won several Chellenge Cups and Grand Finals).
