Bennett back to the Broncos in 2014?

And if we had won last week, would he be the best buy the Knights have ever made? Everyone couldn't stop raving about us round 1. TBH I don't think anyone would have beaten Manly that night, they looked unstoppable. Storm got thrashed by Raiders last season, it's round 2.
If he had won last week he'd still be the oldest coach in the NRL, he would still live in Brisbane and only spend part of his week in Newcastle, he would still only show up at the end of the off season, and he would still be the guy who spent 3 or 4 million more than Rick Stone for worse results.

Rick Stone was earning less than most of his players and actually got a pay rise to be an assistant to Bennett.
Bennett earns 2 or 3 times as much as his highest paid player and has roughly double the support staff that Stone had.

I think Tinks splashed his money on the best guy he could get at the time, but I think he could have got better for the big bucks than an old guy who is basically phoning it in.

I'm starting to get concerned that Billy is being serious now...

Bennett is the best coach this game has ever seen. The old system might have given us short term success like making the finals every so often but most of us believe Bennett is here to provide us with long term success. With Tinkler and Bennett on board we have the best of the best, Bennett is here to turn us around from being constantly mediocre to an NRL powerhouse. It won't happen overnight and we should reserve judgement until his 4 years are over.

As for only spending parts of his weeks in Newcastle, wth are you talking about?? And he's always left the first few weeks of pre-season fitness to Hickmans at every club he's been at and they've still won premierships so again wth are you talking about?

Yeh I'd like to know how legit that is about Bennett...

Of course in his free time he's free to do what he likes, and the off season he was not there for fitness sessions etc which is more for Hickmans to get done. Wayne cant do much, and he was there for ball work on Day 1.

I would cringe if we go back to Rick Stone anytime soon, he is a players person but to the extent he cannot make a tough decision and get rid of them.

Bennett has attracted quality that Stone could only dream of... it's just a matter of making them all click, in which late last year they did. There is still going to be a hiccup here or there, I think it's still adjustment.

I'm eager to see who gets re-signed this year, I think coach killers like Costigan and Hilder might be on the chopping block.

Players that Stone signed on big money to join and paid overs for (Costigan), and Hilder who played only 1 year at his best position (lock) by B.Smith and then was moved for god knows what reason by Stone in 2010.

I'm not saying we go back to Stone.
I'm saying we might have the highest paid coach in the code and we are giving him all the resources he could want, and he isn't getting the results that a guy on pocket money with very few resources got.

Stone gave us a lot more than we paid for.
We are paying Bennett enough money to win a premiership. Anything less than that is underperforming.

Atleast he's with the squad for another 2 years after this whole year, surely by then they will have done something in the comp.

Imagine how much of a waste this time would be if he did leave, no results with a heap of money spent on 'a new era'.

I don't think at all he will leave though.

And he's only just crossed his 1/4 years at the club. We had to go through a complete overhaul from players to staff to even get the long term success off the ground, I have no idea why you've even brought this up about Bennett not yet winning a premiership when he's only been here for 1 year and look at the players and staff he's brought here. We have all the resources and components here to be a premiership-winning club, give it time and stop thinking Stone is some master coach because he managed to get our team knocked out of the finals in the first week. I'd rather us miss out on the top 8 one year while we get ourselves built into a force then being that team that is just happy to make the finals every now and then and call that success. And who cares how much he's getting paid, it's not coming out of the club's pocket so who cares, you're acting like the club is forking out the cheese and we should be saving our money... I just don't get you Billy!

Wayne Bennett is the greatest coach in the modern era arguably the greatest ever he is a man of his word he will not bail on his contract he is commited to the cause. The results have been inconsistent no doubt but we are heading in the right direction IMO. You can not take notice of anything Tallis says he is a grade A moron at the best of times. This is a bull**** story leading nowhere.

Bennett committed to the Knights

The Newcastle Knights were surprised to hear of rumours surrounding Wayne Bennett and refute any suggestion the coach is leaving the Hunter to return to the Brisbane Broncos at the end of this season.

“Wayne has come here to do a job and he has said he isn't going anywhere,” CEO Matt Gidley said.

“Given Wayne spent more than 20 years at the Broncos, any speculation around the Club will forever see his name mentioned or advice sought.

“The only discussions I have had with Wayne are around our Club and building a successful future for the Knights.”

The Bronocs have also dismissed the rumour. Their CEO Paul White told the Courier Mail, “I should not dignify this with a response but it’s absolute rubbish.”

Just goes to show how full of **** That ****er Tallis is

Billy does make some good points.

Sunday's performance was hardly the showing of a side that's progressing. Say what you will about Stone's time in charge - he may not have been able to attract the best quality recruits, etc (and the state of the club at the time would also have had a lot to do with that) but in 2011 the side always ran out and played with a lot of heart. I haven't seen a lot of that from us under Bennett.

I thought they played with a lot of heart , skill , and toughness against the tigers .

It's easier when everything's going your way, and it definitely was in that Tiger's game.

I'm not saying we've never seen anything under Bennett though ... but our consistent effort each week has gone backwards from 2011.

We've been rebuilding since 2007, and the only coach that's got us to the finals in that time is Stone (twice - with help from Smith in 09, but Stone turned us around from a rabble to make it) ... so so far you'd have to say he's outperformed Bennett at the Knights.

I hope so Wayne is good for the club as he is tight in the mind lets hoe Gidley starts to harden up in the mid and realise his limitations.

Easily.

More importantly, look at what has happened to the Dragons. Bennett brought a lot of "experienced" (old) guys to help them win a premiership, then skipped town with Darius and the support staff.
Now they are in a deep dark hole for the next few years at least, trying to sign head case Dugan FFS. They might get the spoon. Such a mess.

We could be going down the same road, minus the premiership.

No way we win the comp this year against Storm/Manly.
Probably the same story next year.

Then Mason/Buderus/Smith/Tahu/Gidley/Scott will all be done or close to it.

It is a concern that the Dragons are an absolute mess now, and pretty much since their inception as a joint venture, they had generally been one of the stronger clubs. God help us if the same thing happens to us once Bennett goes.

However, if Bennett can win a premiership while he's here, then you'd probably take a Dragons-like aftermath. With the age of the players he's signed, that's what we're banking on, I suppose.

At this point I don't see us turning into the Storm/Manly/Dogs (under Hasler) who are consistent contenders so, yeah, I'd take that too.

2001 is a long time ago now!

To be fair to Bennett, he has brought in some young guys. Frei, Gagai, BJ, Dylan Smith, Tapine, Pakua, Proudler, De Saxe, Tuha - all new young guys - and we have a good crop of our own juniors coming through like Jackson Hill, Clydesdale, Roose, Pat Mataútia and Rouse to name a few.
I think we will see a transition from the old guys to the young guys if Bennett stays for his full 4 years.

Team at the end of the Bennett era

Boyd
Uate
Gagai
BJ
McManus
Mullen
Tom Rouse
Snowden
Clydesdale
Jackson Hill
Tapine
Roose
Korbin Sims

Frei
Rochow
Tetevano
Chad Redman
Will Smith
Tyler Randall
Pat Mataútia

Boyd will leave when Bennett does.
Rochow will be a better front rower than Snowden by then.

Where is McKinnon?

Don't know about halfback. I think our best bet is stealing some other clubs junior.
Souths have a young guy stuck behind Reynolds. Canberra has a great NYC half too.
