Adam O'Brien replacement?

The Coach should be coaching his players to play to a plan. The player follows the plan and if not is dropped for next best option.
The short passing from Hastings is not working, the bomb are failing to achieve results
Hastings is still playing in preferred position doing same over and over and over again
Hastings must be following coaches instructions or coach has no answers for problem
I think they are (Hastings) playing to the plan which is a low risk plan. I’ve seen hasting put up a solid bomb. If we are in the opposition 40 on the 5th he should be putting higher and deeper, and we should be contesting for the ball. Or try and kick into space not straight to the opposition back three. It’s probably a mixture of both, our halves kicking ability and a low risk game plan.

In a way it’s hard to even be that mad at the players when they’re basically be sent out for slaughter every week.

How could anyone be that energised to run out knowing they can’t score points, there’s no plan to score points, and you’re not allowed to move the ball around. Melbourne compete on everything. They’re not even allowed to compete properly. They’re just expected to tackle themselves to death every game. How exciting for them and the fans.

I could understand the strategy if he’d demonstrated a high level of success with it against all teams but there isn’t. At best we beat a bunch of crap teams and don’t get totally humiliated against the best ones. That’s the ceiling.

As a footy coach, shouldn’t it be exciting to have a guy with KP’s talent in your team. Wouldn’t it be fun trying to work out ways for him to be the best he can be.

If things keep going like this, I’m sure it won’t be long till other coaches or clubs start getting in his ear about how they can be the ones to help him reach his potential.

I want AOB to become our success story. Our 2020's Malcolm Reilly, who took on a team, made it his own, and got us to premiership glory. Hell, I'll take him being our 2020's Michael Hagan who inherited a team with a superstar player and got instant success mainly due to said superstar player.

I genuinely want him to be a premiership-winning coach at Newcastle. Why? Because of all the time and patience we've all invested in his teams since he's been here. It'd almost be such a waste of time and mental energy if he gets moved on and we've gone through all this s#!t for nothing. To be in yet another situation where a new coach comes in and changes things up yet again without any positive results from the previous coach. Yet another rebuild.

But f**k me. We can all see clear as day that the tedious, monotenous, ineffective play the team does week in, week out is 100% coached into them. I don't know what popped into his head in July 2023 that gave him the impetus to allow the team to just go out there, play attacking football, and enjoy themselves, but it appears now to just be a ray of sunshine in an otherwise grey and dreary winter. A fleeting moment in time never to be repeated. Maybe until his contact is next up for renewal?

I don't pretend to know what or who the answer is going forward, but my unwavering patience is running out and I suspect I'm far from the only one.

This sums up me too, I really want him to work out. We compete much better under him. He’s made good changes to the team at times, and he’s brought young players through well. But this style of football is insanity. It just brings everything undone.

Yep, agreed.

You can't polish a turd unfortunately...

The boys from the Knighted podcast brought up this quote from AOB in the press conference.

AOB - "We're not a good looking team, we're an ugly team. We need to be content and playing like that"

They reminded me, when I heard the same thing from his pressor, I was so ****ty. That is why he better ****ing change up the "game plan" asap or **** off. We have gone from the best-attacking team last year to one of the worst.

The most baffling thing is that after the success of last years run he decided to throw it all out the window simply because they played **** in round 1.

You don’t throw away last years progress and whole off season just because they got a bit ahead of themselves in the first game of the season.

He as no evidence that this team can be successful playing “ugly”. He does have evidence this team can be a good attacking team.

Not to mention, it’s 2024 not 2016, the rules and the game have changed. Yes defence is still the most important thing but if you can’t score points you may as well not bother turning up.

I’m really starting to think AOB may not have actually been the mastermind behind those 4 Premiership wins

And I'm starting to think that the club might be in deeper **** than it realises unless it can wake up and sack the coach as of yesterday. The sooner it happens the greater the chance that we can salvage what good we've created over the last 5 years

The Canberra round one thing is just like the game on the windy day against Cronulla a year or two ago. 😒😂

I was going to post this after reading Newygirl's post.

That game sums up OB. We were playing well, a bit of wind and he kills their confidence telling them to not throw the ball around, Cronulla come out and throw it around and belt us. And we never recovered.

I haven't honestly given a stuff about watching the press conference after the game, but just watched it. Talks about making it a slugfest, that what he does every single game!

The ugly team comment, We have KP, we have best, Gags, we have marzhew, powerful players, elusive players, we have KPP who can offload nearly at will if given space, we have <cough> SOO experienced forwards that just need the motivation and standards set for them.

We showed last year we can be an exciting football team, we can be one of the best attacking teams in the comp.

To say we are an ugly team, is insulting to the players, the club and the fans who turn up to watch, and hope the team can pull it together. Instead, he does not believe in them, and is forcing an ugly dire form of football on them because he believes that is the best they can do.

Just wow! This is the bloke the players look to the most to lead them and guide them.

Yeah how does O'Sullivan sell that vision to prospective recruits . Now that we are all but out of the semi race we see how much resilience the player have got . I think the cracks will start to appear , going to get messy . Don't think they will be playing for Obi!

Flanagans Dragons are currently 7th, only one win outside of the top 4.

They've navigated the Origin period with Hunts absence and are 7th

This is Flanagans 1st 20 games with this squad which was a bona fide bottom 4 team for the last several years.

By next season the Dragons will be a better team than us, if they're not already.
To be fair we are only 3, it's a pretty congested ladder. I'll enjoy watching the knives come out, but I'll back Obi to get us up again next year when we don't have a nightmare run of injuries.

Well, we missed out on the best coach that needed a job in Flanagan.

The truth is OB is not an NRL head coach. The soon the Knights admit this and move him on, the better for us and him.

At least Browny to his credit, stepped aside when he could see the writing on the wall.

50% finals record begs to differ, do you really think that any other coachs could have got anything else out of our team with the injuries we've had, it's one thing for all of us to say we'd play this player and that, but you can't coach what you don't have and despite a nightmare run of injuries we are only a win out of the 8. It's all great to say we have a top 6 roster which we do, but when have more than 10 of them played together all year especially in key positions.

Yeah if we do sack AOB I still think John Morris is the best option avaliable to take over. Has played for the club and not afraid to back the younger players and I thought did a good job at Cronulla with what he had.

Forgot about Arthur, he'd be a upgrade over AOB. He got the best out of several back rowers at Parra.

The more I think of Madge I think he suits the rep footy game and not convinced with any of the other options are any better than AOB tbh.
