Adam O'Brien replacement?

I saw Michael Hagan in Whitebridge a couple of weeks ago, If only?

Every mediocre local player would love that, he handed out so many winning lottery tickets that made them millionaires last time!

Arthur is an interesting choice, he's the best backrower whisperer in the comp. If he can get Shaun Lane looking like an Aldi SBW imagine what he could do with KPP and Lucas.

But AOB has a deal for the next three years so this is all just pissing into the wind, wests won't pay him out yet.

Yeah AOB going nowhere . O 'Sullivan has seen a lot of footy I reckon he would be thinking why did the extend this guy ??. No matter who he manages to sign they won't grow here .Look at the difference in Barney & Josh King since they escaped

A lot of hate going towards Hastings. These bomb/chips kicks where utterly useless and gave the broncs good field position to start there sets. The short pass to KKP right at the line has never yielded much and he keeps doing it.

But, is he told to do this and that is what they practice at training?

KPP, as stated well by NewyGirl, should be on the right. He has slowly regressed the last month and you don’t see that free arm anymore.

Putting midrange bombs and not contesting for the ball is clearly no advantage.

Low risk, less ball movement, “grinding” footy is not working. I loved watching us play last year. This year we are boring to watch. How/why have we regressed so much!?

The games we have won this year have not been convincing. This is all pointing to one common denominator, and that’s the coach.

His game plan is to play that structured footy Melbourne “used” to play. News flash Melbourne don’t play that way anymore!

Whatever you might say about Hastings, he’s absolutely playing in handcuffs at the moment. Watch any game of his at the Tigers and even though that team sucked, there was way more variety to what he was trying to do. He’s absolutely playing the way he is now on the coach’s orders.
Got to agree , Obi strikes me as a "dictator" style manager , could put Bellamy as his assistant & it would make no difference .Can't be a good feeling for the players dishing up that sort of performance in front of a full full house . Got a feeling things will start to unravel very shortly

Completely agree. Been saying it all season. Those short midfield bombs. The tight 2nd row passes. They are plays designed to minimise risk. We are better than that. We have players that can do more. How long are we going to be constrained by the low risk mindset of our head coach? It isn’t working. Time to let the boys play some footie with smiles on their faces. I reckon Hastings could unleash this back line if only he was given the chance.

Yeah Hastings playing to a plan but he's also not the same player physically he was at the tigers.

Not hyperbole to say he might be the slowest player in the comp now.

The Coach should be coaching his players to play to a plan. The player follows the plan and if not is dropped for next best option.
The short passing from Hastings is not working, the bomb are failing to achieve results
Hastings is still playing in preferred position doing same over and over and over again
Hastings must be following coaches instructions or coach has no answers for problem

Watching this boring, predictable attack every week is heartbreaking.
No player in the comp is going to want to come and play this rubbish. It's career suicide.
The only players that will want to come is mediocre guys that will get Jack Hetherington style contracts.

Melbourne haven't played that structured style since got beaten by Cronulla in that grand final in 2016.

Our side is not a grinding side at all. Should be playing a similar style to the 2022 Eels/2023 Broncos not the 2009 Storm.

Even the team which grinds team into dust, Penrith, doesn’t necessarily play a “grinding” style. They use a lot of ball movement. They offload. They change angles. It’s just that their aim is to put fatigue into the opposition that they can capitalise on later rather than to try to score with every opposition, and they do it by constantly moving the opposing defensive line around. Very little of this “one out, one out, short ball, one out, tame kick” crap. That’s how they’re so dominant despite having a genuinely below average strike rate at converting tackles in the opposing red zone into points. They’re constantly applying pressure until the opposition cracks, rather than trying to hit a home run with every opportunity.

In a vacuum, I get the belief that we need to be prepared to drag teams into the mud to win: It’s undeniable that a massive part of why Penrith are so good is that they’re the best spoilers in defence I’ve ever seen. No team has ever been harder to generate ruck speed against. That’s how they’ve been so dominant without a truly generational attacking stud like a Ponga, a Walsh, a Latrell, etc. But they’re not dominating by spending huge swathes of the game giving the opposition absolutely nothing to think about when they have the ball. They’re always trying to make the opposition uncomfortable.

Yeah and the game has simply gone past that 2016 style. Watch that grand final back again now and tell me the Panthers wouldn’t chew both these teams up easy as kiss your hand.
