Adam O'Brien replacement?

Jacob Kiraz comes to mind. Could have used him on the wing or center on the weekend. The dogs were getting pumped last year but all of a sudden turned it around this season.

Anyway I’m hoping the return of Ponga and Gamble will change our attacking playing style. I think the reason AOB has stuck with that grinding style is because KP has been out. It may all be too late even if we come good and start playing similar to the run last year.

Big game next week at home. Our last chance I would say.

This season has been a bit of a write off. And my comments cover the entirety of his time here coaching.

Remember a few seasons back we could have secured a home final, went out and shat the bed and waved goodbye to the home final! And from memory that game was very winnable. And we were very ordinary!

And again, the Bulldogs are in 5th with an ordinary roster.

If you can get your teams attitude right, play to your strengths, sure, landing 5th or 6th is certainly possible, 4th sure I believe it is possible.

But we aren't anywhere near where we should be effort wise, game intensity wise, and strategy wise.

That is on the coach!

As Mozza said, we should be competing for those spots 4-6, and sure there are other teams with the same desires, but we are nowhere near competing as we should be.

People are seriously thinking we can recruit a 7 and we will suddenly be contenders? Not with this coach, not with the standards he allows!
I agree with most of this, but not the Bulldogs are an ordinary roster! They are far from ordinary, with many ex-Panthers who have won premierships. Look through their team and think again, they are far from an ordinary roster, who until recently have been underperforming imo.

If you take the winning streak out, we have been a pretty average side the whole time with AOB. We were pretty bloody awful last year too until we hit that streak.

A few lucky bounces and a run of wins and our team got a bit of confidence and started to believe. I don't think AOB provided any of that. Once we lost against Canberra in round 1 it was back to the standard AOB Knights team.

It's been 5 years, and this year we are going to be lucky to scrape into the 8. Let's try someone else.
I believe we will finish outside the 8 this year.
We play a lot of one out, bone headed football and look like we are playing with shackles on.
Our kicking game has been ordinary and inconsistent and we are frightened to chase and contest the ball.
Just a thought, but Fogarty from the Raiders may provide something for us until Linnane or others get to first grade. He kicked us all over the park in Round 1 and gets his team around the park well.

This is why the Knights only offered him a 1 year extension, thought his body was shot.
Happy it all worked out for him, got a good deal from the warriors and is killing it.
Barnett said he needed a change of clubs as well. At the time of Barnett leaving I heard that DSaf wasn’t impressed the Knights had let him go. I wonder if that explains DSaf’s plodding form since and his agreement to go to another club at the end of the year.

Pretty blinkered to say players who play well under AOB have just hit a great streak of form from nowhere, but those who don’t go well, it’s all his fault.

By that same logic though I don't think its right to point at some positives like the winning streak and say look how well he is coaching, but excuse the bad stuff saying look at our spine etc etc.

From my viewpoint, he has not got the team performing week in week out to an acceptable level for the vast majority of his time here.

No, he’s definitely made some bad calls around tactics and the direction of the team in attack while he’s been here.

We have made the finals three out of his four years though, and with some rosters that it wouldn’t have been expected from. I think he has generally had us playing pretty well. This year will definitely be the biggest disappointment if we don’t make it, but there have been very crucial injuries. I think the worst bit was our start to the season when we were full strength. Perform better there and we’d be in a very different place.

My yard stick is not if we make the finals.

The top 8 system is a joke when you can win only half your games and make it.

Teams 7 and 8 should not be there IMHO.

1 of those seasons we looked any good.

Personally im not happy with being a club that can barely make the 8, only to have no hope of making a dent. 1 and done as CBM famously taunted.

That’s how teams eventually become a power though, it starts with consistently making the eight.

But don't we want an even competition where you could show up every week and not know who is going to win?? Right now there are a couple of teams that are obviously further ahead but they have been like that for some time now but other than that the comp has been great the last couple of years with teams being this close.

Fair call

Spot on

Don't mind me, just doing some cleaning, getting the thread ready!

Flanagans Dragons are currently 7th, only one win outside of the top 4.

They've navigated the Origin period with Hunts absence and are 7th

This is Flanagans 1st 20 games with this squad which was a bona fide bottom 4 team for the last several years.

By next season the Dragons will be a better team than us, if they're not already.

They are already better than us lets face it.

And you are spot on, Flangan, a real coach, took the fairly ordinary squad, and has them playing competitive footy.

The dogs also have a worse roster than us and outperforming us easily.
