Yep we did. Then we did a full 180 and stopped doing the things that worked. Good line speed, early set spreads, hard d. When Smithy had us it was a case in point that you NEVER let your inside man down nor did you ever leave a breath of fresh air out there. He also used to say 40 minutes is endorphins 40minutes is pain.

Wayne looks at early success. Hence why he brought those guys from dragqueens with him. He didn't see any sort of future coaching here he only saw $$$$$$. He was never commited to doing the right job here. He walked away with no remorse. For that he deserves a royal get F.A.R.Q.E.D.

Look at Arthur and Stuart! Had years where they have finished well down the ladder, sometimes a wooden spoon and then in a couple years time, because of some stability and recruitment and juniors performing well, they make GF's!! That was with squads way better then what we had in seasons 20/21.

But dead set, the folk on here are throwing him out the door based off last year, when we had an insane number of injuries to key personnel and playmakers that were left playing on one leg. What other coach is going to do ANY good with conditions like that.

The mentality of knights fans lately is to get a new coach every couple seasons and have immediate success. Guess what folks, our top 30 weren't up to it last year, due to half of them being out and the Juniors and reserves who came in, just weren't up to scratch. Hoy, Randall, Musgrove, Momoisea and Saulo average at best. The top 30 this year is solid up to squad position 17, but still a fair yard stick away from being ultra competitive. AOB is doing his best with what he has, this year AT LEAST he has a half who will do everything to win and some solid back ups to help when needed. (just hopefully not for majority of season)

Give AOB some stability in the team and I bet you we can make a strong push for the 8. Recruit well next year and even MORE stability in the squad and we'll keep getting better.

I wouldn't really call 20/21 good seasons they were hugely inconsistent while scrapping into the 8.

Yes making the 8 was awesome but i think it masked some of the underlying issues.

Also I don't get what the obsession with Des hasler is on here he done well at manly in his first stint, then left the dogs in a woeful state and second stint at manly didn't go well.

I think people forget how good of a squad he had at manly in that 1st stint.

I reckon Bennett was also told by Tinkler he wanted instant success as well. I don't think he'd have taken the job if the job description had been rebuild the club for sustainable ongoing success. So Tinkler is equally to blame for me.

But definitely the way he ran off with his tail between his legs as soon as the money was gone, and took key players with him, told others to leave the club, was a disgrace.
 
So if the writing wasn't on the wall for AOB the drums are clearly beating now, Dom leaving is a clear sign that there is no faith in the coach and turning the club into a premiership force.........

AOB should have been let go last year, the bloke has no idea.

Melbourne can have him but I think they will find someone much better than him.

Do people forget that he spent 10+ years in Melbourne? Results in Newcastle aside, he knows that system intimately and from what I remember, we extended Obi due to the threat of Melbourne wanting to sign him back before Bellamy later extended. I have no doubt he'd be high on their hit list to replace Bellamy. Not that he'd do a good job there - but they'd want him there.
