Aaron Woods

People need to remember its all good for your Lambs and Barnetts to be standouts in what whilst was a heroic side but in reality a very poor one.

Ross, Sione, Lamb, Levi, Safiti's, Barnett all need to show they have another gear or be shown the door, all of these guys look to have hit their ceiling and are not first grade standard.

I'd expect with Brown and Moonies ruthlessness that even contracted players will be getting tapped on the shoulder and moved on. Guys I mentioned have shown no improvement and in fact have gone backwards.

Probably Dan is the only one I'd be keeping.
Not so sure about letting the Twins go most props don't show theyre best until they're mid to late 20;s and they are only 21 ...

Yeah, I wouldn't be writing off Dan just yet.

When you're pushing closer to 100 first grade games and not getting any better that's a concern, ala Tyrone Roberts. What's he up to these days?

Definitely not writing of dan i know stats are not everything but dan has averaged over 118m a game for the last 6 weeks now in a mostly loosing side. Everyone would be creaming there pants if we were signing a prop from another club with those stats that had so much potential.

NRL 2018: Newcastle Knights show an interest in Canterbury Bulldogs prop Aaron Woods

NEWCASTLE coach Nathan Brown has opened the door for Aaron Woods to join the Knights.

The former NSW forward has been speculated as potentially moving on from Canterbury as the Bulldogs deal with NRL salary cap issues.

Brown says Newcastle haven’t spoken to Woods or his manager but believes the 27-year-old is a “player who’d certainly improve our squad”.

“Any time there’s front-rowers on the market we’re always discussing that,” Brown said on Wednesday.

“I’m not sure what the story is with Canterbury, whether he is a movable piece.

“We certainly came into this year two or three middles short, so we’re in a strong position if someone like Woodsy became available and we thought it was part of the plan and he wanted to come.

“I’m not sure how much truth’s in any of it.”

The Dogs have already been forced to let go star fullback Moses Mbye, who will join West Tigers on a four-year deal from next season.

Woods has reportedly been shopped around despite only starting at the Belmore-based club this season on a lucrative four-year deal.

Canberra have already declared Woods to be off-limits even with front-rowers Shannon Boyd and Junior Paulo leaving the Raiders at the end of the season.

I dont think many other clubs are in a position to afford Woods for next season, i thought Canberra/Tigers might be but have both said they dont want him. We might get him at a good discount if the Dogs really have to let him go.

If the bulldogs cap situation is as bad as forecasted then we can absolutely get Woods at a reasonable price so long as his contract is structured well and not one of Des' backended specials.

Hell I'd even throw in Cogger as a sweetner (before June 30) and offer to pay him to play there or something (despite our injuries ATM) and pull off some player swap.

If we pay 500k that will free up the dogs cap space to sign 2-3 players (if its as bad a reported)
They will basically be money balling and signing players no one wants for a few years before getting guys who they want

Offer them Sione Meaney and Coggar plus 250k and id be happy lol

Sione isn't contracted (yet) but we are still doing them a favour by taking woods off their hands. Where there is slight leverage.

Both parties get what they want out of the player swap but it would muddy the waters if there was other players involved. If they do want Meaney and we don't mind parting with him I would make them pay more of Woods contract in that first year since its a right off for them anyway (2019)but I'd have no issue taking the (or most) of the cap hit for woods this year because its cap money unspent anyway. And means the dogs can (and can afford to) get their two guys early.

I'm sure people who work for both clubs who get paid more money to make these decisions can work some better math out

But absolutely worth exploring

If we do sign him, there is one condition that should be put into his contract. That being... not to grow his hair like Lord Farquaad again. Haha

Like Samson, perhaps his strength is contingent on not cutting his hair?

The missus was awfully disappointed when it got chopped, it took away her compulsion to shout out "Jesus!" every time he. got the ball.
