2026 Season

The Broncos were 11th after 13 rounds last year. Their season could have gone either way from there. Reece Walsh caught fire late in the season and they surged to finish 4th before mounting comebacks in all three finals matches to take out the comp. This isn't a team that has been up for years Melbourne or Penrith like. They peaked for about ten weeks when it mattered on the back of an amazing run of form from their class player. Even then, they weren't 80 minute performances, they needed comebacks. When those comebacks started falling short this year they fell off a cliff.

I don't think last year the Broncos were a team that was masterfully prepared, i think their talent rose to the top for a short run and it was enough to win the comp. They certainly haven't proven to be a dynasty like other recent premiers.

Everyone was saying they had a window when they first made that GF in 2023 that they had to take advantage of, and credit to them for making the right moves, most importantly getting rid of Kevvy.

Also it was hilarious seeing both the Broncos and Storm saying FU to the NRL and PVL and not taking up any options to receive kickoffs after conceding tries lol. Hopefully it's the last we see of it.

I think the Broncos did it once, didn’t they? Voss was going on about how it was the first time it had happened in the history of rugby league … I was thinking - didn’t you commentate Super League games back in 1997?

It took a long time for them to use it, but the Broncos did end up using it about 3 or so times when they were well behind and Storm 2 times. Was a bit of a nothing burger but it was a game that meant nothing.

I could imagine a team like Penrith using it really well and strategically but at the end of the day, the teams are mostly good at short kick offs now, it becomes pointless when a team can short kick off and then gain possession again, and then actually puts the team that chose to receive back under pressure.

It is very weird how poorly Madge has been treated after helping win them their first premiership in 20 years. As the biggest club in the comp, with the most off field advantages, they’ve been perennial underachievers.

Definitely not saying Madge is a genius or anything because if not for an insane 20 minutes of play from Cleary, Kevin Walter’s would’ve won them a comp too.

I just think Madge deserves a bit more respect and grace for what he accomplished. Having said that, it is extremely odd to me that Madge hasn’t seemed to consider changing up his coaching style a bit over the years. He clearly can coach and wants to be an NRL coach, at some point don’t you have to look in the mirror and consider changing your approach somewhat. Unless his happy doing 3 year gigs everywhere

Madge was one of the first developed under the Bellamy coaching tree, at the Storm, also going to the Super League before coming back and being touted as a head coach in waiting before coming to the NRL the way you see guys who are assistants/ESL do.
He must do something right as he has been able to last longer then a lot of other coaches who started around the same time and have fizzled out, Kearney/Brad Arthur, to an extent been around a bit longer but has also failed to adapt like Des Hasler etc.

Bludger of a game. Young has given them a spray, and they've still come out and embarrassed themselves...some of these blokes are going to be psychologically scared...even with recruits next season, it's going to take a lot to turn this around...just glad it's not us for a change.
