2026 Season

Dragons are good at playing teams down to their level but still can't close out the game even though I think they got dudded yesterday.

The actual decisions pretty much balanced out for us yesterday even if the impact didn't quite match. I thought Gagai should have been awarded his try but also the Cows probably should have kept their challenge, the replay was inconclusive. I thought Clifford benefited from an obstruction but also if Friz is going to get a suspension for that cannonball, you can argue he should have been binned. The ruck infringements/offsides/six agains were about fair though from what I could see.

Dragons got absolutely hosed. There are no conspiracies but I do think there's unconscious bias that the top teams benefit from & the Dogs are in there now. You just have to play out of your skin and break into the top teams if you want that rub of the green. No use whinging.

Wow what is happening down there? First time in all the years I've been watching footy that we're seeing what feels like (non-cap cheating) mismanagement and panic from Melbourne.

Seemed like the Eels always had the upper hand, ah well Lomax can always play Union overseas if the eels don’t let him play in the nrl for the next two years

No one really wins here...except the lawyers.

Melbourne is out of pocket, Parra got nothing for a player who they got for nothing on a broken contract (and they've at the very least damaged relations with other clubs and NRL management), Lomax is out of pocket, and the NRL loses an Origin quality player to Rugby.

The only positive really is the cautionary tale for NRL players when R360 comes calling again.

PVL still went about it the wrong way threatening 10 year blanket BS bans for anyone defecting but yeah dumb dumb agents too

Lomax loses out, which makes me smile a little.

He agitated at Dragons - while playing selfish, and frankly pretty rubbish footy. Moved to wing where he excelled, wanted more money and to play certain positions, and Dragons got sick of him agitating and released him early.

Signs with Eels to a good contract.

Then got lured by 360. Eels presumably say, you have a contract here with us. Lomax and agent want their 360 pie, tear the contract up by any means necessary so he can go play rugby. Ok….here’s your release, but you can’t just turn up at another NRL club. Sure, whatever, I want my money.

Oh damn. No 360. Well, maybe I’ll get some sweet Rugby money.

He got rugby offers from what I remember, he just didn’t like the number. Rugby Australia deemed that he didn’t quite have the pedigree to top his contract up.

Have zero sympathy for Lomax.

Some players and clubs go about things in an amicable way. Doesn’t really seem like this is how Lomax operates. I agree, this has turned into a bit of a disaster for everyone. But I kind of like that the Eels stuck to their guns. Contracts should mean something. Especially while we don’t really have the avenue of football to offer transfer fees etc.

If Ponga begged us to release him, so he could go play for All Blacks at World Cup. We release him. If he then decided it wasn’t quite the dream he thought it was, and the Roosters try to sign him. We’d be up in arms about how unfair it was.

Only mostly caught the back end of Dogs/Dragons the other day. Watching it back now, gee a lot familiar about how the Dogs are playing, and I have some notes on the performance:

- They contested a kick in the first half, need to cut that out!
- No players in support ever, which is good, conserves energy for defence.
- The ball movement was slow and the decoy runs didn't have a lot of vigor to them, but I reckon they could do it all a bit slower if they really try.
- There were times when they didn't take four one out runs before an ineffectual spread late in the count. Sometimes it was only 3. Again, something to work on.
- First Dogs try was an uncalled forward pass from Galvin, and a very obvious one, I'm sure AOB is very frustrated that when one of our halves hit a lead runner who was two metres ahead of them it was always penalised.

Sort of a mixed bag overall, if they want to squeak out a hard-fought 20-6 loss against the Raiders in their next fixture, they have a bit to work on!

I never understood why fans were so opposed to the R360 bans. If that tournament becomes successful it will become a legitimate option for elite players to take 1-2 year sabbaticals to make a boat load of cash and travel the world. The NRL do need some sort of deterrent imo.

I'm the other way on this...how many RL talents have gone to other codes, and it was going to be the death of RL, and all the NRL has done is come up with new talent.

R360 might pick off a few elite players and overpay for a few who are overrated or past their best, but the NRL, as long as clubs keep investing in young talent, will be fine...

It’s all conjecture at this point but there’s never been a competitor like it. If it is right R360 can double players salaries and they only have to turn up in a city a week before to train then players will be tempted. You don’t know what is and isn’t true, but talks of an offer in the vicinity of 3m to Haas

Agree but money talks. If it ever gets off the ground it seems like the player salaries will be like something we haven’t seen before. Agree that it was dramatic, but if PVL said publicly I’m not worried about R360 at all the 7-10 NRL players walk out for 2-3x the cash he looks like an idiot. Looking like an idiot in the first instance but putting a bit of fear into the players I think was the smart option.

"It’s all conjecture at this point but there’s never been a competitor like it. "

Well, it didn't get off the ground. And Liv Golf has also struggled, so IDK that it's realistically that big a threat. But I agree PVL can't sit on his hands either.

This is almost forcing the NRL clubs to act with integrity!
Wow!
My head is spinning.
Good for you Eels.
