2026 Recruitment And Retention

Thanks for confirming

So there is a fair chance that if Holbrook gets the job, Marzhew would be dropped or moved on as Holbrook didn’t rate him at the Titans
Very likely but his issue was more his poor defence rather than Ariel ability, but yes a great chance if he becomes coach, Marzhew will be dropped

Hunter Sports High just lost their first ever GF in the schoolboys cup.
Lost 36 - 24, but plenty of Knights juniors looked good - Toby Winter and Cooper Townsend the best I think.

Unfortunately I agree, I think Cows beat us to him

Hey fella's I reckon with Kevvie at the helm Deardon is the Aussie halfback(Cleary quite simply sucks at rep level while Deardon owned it this year.), and to be fair playing outside of Deardon or at lock or partnering Brown in the halves, career wise Cows is a better option, so lets not take it too personally.

Not to mention instead of being closer to family on the Central Coast, he'd rather move to Townsville lol

People overrate the family connection, they are not lost puppies they are humans and a lot of people are after something a bit different particularly when young, one of the dumbest lines touted - -not bagging you Alex but in general they think its a big factor, not to mention NRL players are competitive and want too make it on their own.

Dearden a very good chance of being picked but only if they have someone who can kick a footy more than 20 metres in the other halves spot.

Just had a sticky beak on the Cowboys forum, they are not even fussed about whether they get him and overwhelmingly the take is "why do we want a back up for Jake Clifford?" lol.

Here we are absolutely sweating on the signing.

That's gold HVG, got plenty of Roosters mates who are not fussed, they like him but feel he is very hot and cold.

Could be another Beau Henry for all we know.

If we had Sam Walker on the books and were about to sign DCE I wouldn't be worried about it either TBF.

That's very Roosters fan though to say "not sure he's good enough for us, too hot and cold" about a 22 year old lmao.

In their defence I don't think Sandon and Walker compliment each other as a duo that well (and neither did Walker and Keary in my opinion). Some halves duos, another guy who's kind of like them as a player is a great fit (Moses and Brown, Munster and Hughes), but Sam I think is one where you want to find a guy who's got a lot of opposite attributes to him. He's Alfie Langer and you want to find a big, strong, hard running 6 with a big boot on him for the other spot IMO.

Obviously it’s his choice, but to act like the Knights don’t have a good if not better rosters is pure false.

We have many rep players and upcoming juniors that have shown they are are first graders.

Past/current rep players
Sharpe
Lucas
Frizell
Gagai
Young
Ponga
Brown
Best
Crossland
J-SAF

People can twist it all they want if Sandon joined he wouldn’t be second to Brown, no coach with a brain will put Brown over Smith.

It’s up to him but to go off roosters fans reactions is borderline hilarious, I know roosters fans that don’t want him to go and don’t want DCE

Oh yeah there's plenty of Roosters fans that really like Sandon too, don't get me wrong.

100% agree the Cowboys roster is worse - outside of their spine. And they've had like three games total missed by their key spine players and only won a few more games than us. Taumalolo is still their best middle & they have more overpaid plodders than we do. Even with the struggles we've been having, if Ponga and Sharpe were fit all season we would have passed them up by the end of the year IMO.

The frustration here for me is that we have a bunch of really good players - our backline and overall pack are better IMO - who'd all perform better if we put a decent halves combo in there for once, and Sandon and Brown would compliment each other well I think, but I guess we're letting the opportunity pass us by with this insistence on him playing hooker.

I think Sandon would be "second" to Brown in the sense that his role will be facilitating & freeing up other strike players a bit - but that's why I want him, I believe him to be good at that. I would actually want Brown touching the ball more than Sandon because I want Brown taking the line on 15 times a game, chasing & contesting kicks, going to the line on the front foot with options on his inside and outside, etc. Not that Sandon isn't a good ball runner or anything, he's nippy... he's a straightener who actually threatens the line enough to hold up defenders lol.

Call it delusional 🤣
But…..
I’m hoping no word means Sandon has flipped back to us & club is just dotting i’s and crossing t’s 🤞🙏
POS has came in harder but from what I’ve heard it’s a done deal cows for three years. Unless POS has offered him halfback I can’t see him coming to the club. Hookers have to make 50 plus tackles a game. It’s not a sexy position like fullback or in the halves.

It seems sheer stupidity that POS would pigeon hole him in 9. Who knows what the new coach will do. I guess they could not guarantee him a starting halves spot. It doesn’t help that there is no coach to actually make the call. Bad timing in that respect.

What a ****witt.

First he signs an 800k running 6 for $1.4m to play 7, then turns down a 7 by forcing him to play 9 knowing it'll cost him the signing.

Some frightening levels of idiocy from the bloke we're supposed to trust to rebuild the roster

Brown and Sharpe are going to be the halves. They’re going to give Blake the job and that’s the combo he wants.

Was it on here someone said they heard POS was actually really confident of getting Tyran Wishart out of his contract? Because if what we’re looking to sign is a hooker, there’s no doubt in my mind 9 is his position. Some doubt with Sandon.
